Uttarakhand planning to boost the usage of EV on Char Dham Tourist Circuit

The government of Uttarakhand is striving hard to boost the adoption of electric vehicles on the Char Dham route to contribute towards the safe ecological environment of the Himalayas. Satpal Maharaj, Minister of Tourism, in a rally said, "Government is receiving various feedback for driving an electric car on the Char Dham Routes. Government officials are planning to collaborate with many EV manufacturers to encourage travellers and tourists and to open EV charging centres on Char Dham Routes and in the cafe so they can enjoy local food while charging cars." He further added, "Usage of electric vehicles not only helps in boosting tourism but also helps the country as a whole to save valuable foreign currency. The Tourism Ministry is also about promoting winter tourism in Uttarakhand."

Government's Call

The government of Dehradun took steps to make Dehradun a "smart city" in November 2020. It announced a tender for electric vehicle charging station companies to set up stations.

Interest subsidy will be applicable for 5-years, from the date of commercial production. The state government will focus on developing green highways in Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Haldwani, Rudrapur and Kashipur. The state government will incentivize the development of EV charging infrastructure. The state government also proposes to make industrial land available for the development of EV charging infrastructure and EV manufacturing capacity in clusters and zones. Land allocated for setting up EV manufacturing or EV component manufacturing units cannot be utilized for any other purpose for 15 years from the grant. To avail incentives under this program, firms need to employ 70 per cent of their workforce from citizens residing in Uttarakhand
