How many EV Charging Stations are in Bangalore?
Do you own an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle? It is now easy to recharge it in the streets of Bengaluru. Many charging stations have been put into service by the EVCS manufacturers and suppliers in the streets of the town, in addition to the charging station installed by BESCOM. And that's just the beginning! The installation of fast-charging stations – which charge an average of 80% of the vehicle's battery in 20 minutes. Bengaluru has 471 electric cars, 29 E-three-wheelers, and 1486 e-bikes and e-scooters across the city. Govt body BESCOM charging station count in Bengaluru is 136 charging stations which are installed at 74 locations across the city. A few months back, Ather energy had 37 charging ports installed at various locations in Bengaluru. The company recently announced plans to install 40 more Ather EV charging stations in the city. There are around 11 charging stations installed by Kazam EV available for the use of EV users of Bengaluru.
Karnataka will lead all Indian states in the EV market after introducing EV policies and modern energy storage in 2017, boosting EV sales and infrastructure. The Electric Vehicle Policy of Karnataka aims to switch 50% of public transport to electric vehicles by 2030. The government has also specifically called on Bangalore to become India's electric vehicle capital. However, high EV inputs can pose an unstable network risk due to spatial and temporal uncertainty that can cause large spikes when they coincide with peak residential demand. Electric vehicles can also affect power quality in-circuit networks due to severe voltage surges. This can put additional stress on the circulating distortion (DT) due to excessive overloading.
According to the Indian Smart Grid Forum study, a major upgrade of DT (more than 100kVA) and cables is required to quickly integrate the EV loads and eliminate the uncertainty. BESCOM already suffers from frequent power cuts, so the additional load in the form of an electric vehicle could make the situation worse. A flexible and reliable circulating infrastructure is, therefore, a crucial step in the large-scale deployment of electric vehicles. This is also reinforced by the introduction of daily usage charges time-of-day tariff owners in Bangalore, contributing to lower costs during peak periods and fewer incentives with higher costs during periods of high demand. So in addition to a robust charging infrastructure such as availability, profitability, and time-based pricing, BESCOM needs to make a significant investment in upgrading its legacy network for a smooth transition to electric vehicles.
Charzer is partnering with Apartment Society Management & Accounting Software (ADDA) to build the charging infrastructure in Bengaluru
Charzer, a Bangalore-based EVCS service, has partnered with ADDA, a unified social management system, to set up electric vehicle charging infrastructure in apartments and societies. In the first phase, Charzer will install 1500 smart electric vehicle charging stations in apartments and societies in the coming two years. Charzer is a Bangalore-based startup company that offers IoT-based charging stations for electric vehicles at a low, compact, and smart price. According to a survey conducted by ADDA in Bangalore in September 2021, only 6.9% of the population has electric vehicle charging stations in their flats, while the remaining 93.1%, about 92.7%, want to install EV charging stations in their society premises.
