Goa To Subsidise 11,000 Electric Vehicles Annually For Five Years

Goa, which recently issued a tentative programme to encourage the utility of electric cars in the state, would provide subsidies for 11,000 EVs over the next five years. By 2025, the coastal state wants electric vehicles to account for 30% of all vehicle registrations. The state government intends to fund 10,000 electric two-wheelers, 500 electric three-wheelers, and about 500 electric four-wheelers in this manner to reduce the carbon footprint. According to the draught scheme for promoting electric vehicles in the state, every year for the next five years, a subsidy of Rs 10 crore will give to 10,000 two-wheelers, Rs 1 crore to 500 three-wheelers, and Rs 14 crore to around 500 four-wheelers. According to reports, a top state government official stated that the subsidies would distribute on a first-come, first-served basis. The incentive for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers has set at 30,000 per vehicle, with a maximum incentive of 1.5 lakh per vehicle available for electric four-wheelers. The subsidy will pay in a single, one-time payment of 100% of the purchase price of the electric automobile. The owner will only need to provide the purchase paperwork, which includes the RC book and insurance.

Goa has a vehicle density of 625 vehicles per 100 people, placing it fifteenth all around the globe in terms of vehicle density. “Adopting the usage of electric cars for daily travel is necessary to accomplish a range of goals, including improved air quality, lower noise levels, and lower greenhouse gas emissions,” according to the official.

The proposed proposal also states that the vehicle owner would get 50% of the Purchase Incentive if the battery has not sold with the car. The remaining money, up to 50%, would be paid to Energy Operators to cover the cost of any deposit requested from end-users for the usage of a swappable battery.

Objectives behind this programme

According to the source, the programme also aims to meet the Center objective of having six to seven million electric and hybrid cars on Indian roads by 2025, as outlined in the National Electric Mobility Plan (NEMPP). With electric car prices around 50% higher extravagant than conventional internal combustion vehicles, objectives have not met.

According to the source, the new programme is likewise targeting meeting the goals. Among other aims, the Goa government hopes to convert 50% of all ferries to electric power by 2025, generate 10,000 direct and indirect employment in the industry by 2025, and introduce 500 100% electric buses by 2025.

Mutual Agreement with Convergence Energy Services Ltd to achieve the goal

“To that end, the department of new and renewable energy has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Convergence Energy Services Ltd, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd, which is controlled by the Union ministry of power,” the official added. The Centre created the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles initiative to save 120 million barrels of oil and four million tonnes of CO2 by 2020 while also reducing vehicle emissions by 1.3 per cent.

Moreover, all two-wheelers operating in Goa will transition to electricity completion by December 31, 2025. All two-wheelers sold in Goa state were 100% electric until beyond December 31, 2030. Existing cars registered with ICE may, nevertheless, be operating till their lifetime.
