Global Cars manufacturers all set to modify Indian Road-Friendly Electric Vehicles

The number of people using electric vehicles is increasing worldwide, with India being one of the fastest-growing countries in terms of Electric Vehicles. Recently, the entry of Tesla into the Indian market confirms that electric vehicles are ready to roll out in Indian Market. Indian manufacturers are also starting to introduce advanced electric vehicles though some government policies are helping accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

Global EV giant Morris Garages has recently collaborated with Exicom Tele-Systems. As part of this partnership, Exicom will replace old MG ZS EV batteries and undergo a controlled evaluation to provide custom batteries for non-automotive applications.

Similarly, another global giant Triton Electric Vehicle LLC recently unleashed its Electric Vehicle plans in India. The company is in talks with several Indian states to set up a fully-equipped electric vehicle factory in India with the latest technology and world-class infrastructure.

MG Motors India collaborates with Tata Power and Fortum to provide help in the cost infrastructure to customers. The company said its customers will take advantage of 21 fast chargers and more than 1,000 DC fast chargers. In addition, they will install a handy charger as per its customers' choice.

Morris Garages is a subsidiary of the European car manufacturer owned by the Chinese state of SAIC UK (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). The company made its debut in the Indian market with MG Hector in the year 2019. Its recently launched ZS EV offers two options-Excite and Exclusive. First, it was introduced in January 2020. The updated version uses a 44.5 kWh advanced battery and can run for 419 km on a fully charged battery. At the time of launch, this battery has undergone extensive testing in a variety of weather conditions. MG is also confident and guarantees a range of 300 to 400 km, though it depends on factors such as driving style and terrain. The ZS EV solar panels can generate 1.3 kWh power and reduce AC power consumption from 3 kW to 1.3 kW. This will compensate for the loss of miles or kilometers traveled in India and save almost 30% battery in heavy traffic.

Triton master plan for EVs in Indian Market

Triton recently signed a memorandum of understanding with BEL. Both organizations are working on the development of energy storage systems and electric vehicles. The company is in talks with a few governments and states. Officials in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are actively considering the Triton EV approach. The company's officials evaluate the range of electric vehicle policies in these states and the strategic value of EV products. Niti Aayog has played a significant role in providing the necessary support to set up the plan in the Indian market.

Triton EV is involved in various sectors such as power generation, charging management, and EV charging stations, small removable batteries up to 10 MWh batteries. The company is committed to making electric vehicles with battery technology developed exclusively by experts of the company.

Triton launched an electric car with a sunroof in India to help generate electricity while driving. As per Himanshu Patel, they will build vehicles around the infrastructure of India. He believes that Triton solar panels set him apart from potential Indian competitors.

Type of Electric Vehicles India wants

Today's electric vehicles are equipped with lead-acid batteries, which make them preferable public transport. It is mainly used in motorcycles and bicycles such as e-rickshaws for their short-range driving. It has been noticed that the recent addition of carbon to lead-acid batteries can significantly improve the performance of batteries and improve the ease of use of passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Besides efficiency, another important factor is safety when determining the maximum operating power of an electric vehicle. However, to an extent, it gets better with advanced materials that can upgrade the overall quality of your vehicle, prevent fire and short-circuit, and reduce the chance of physical and chemical corrosion.

Electric vehicle use is quite challenging because different types of electric vehicles have specific requirements. The research and development of companies in the fields of advanced battery products, high-quality material, and pigments/coatings are at the forefront of EV solutions. In addition, they are making long-term investments to secure the future of electric vehicles by continuing to collaborate with EVs agencies.

Challenges for EV in India

The Indian government recently announced its desire to electrify 100% of its car fleet by 2030. This looks like a challenge for car manufacturers. This announcement comes when the World Health Organization (WHO) declares 6 Indian cities are the most polluted in the world. To achieve this objective, the government intends to support manufacturers by providing them with tax advantages. Electric cars would thus be taxed less than those running on diesel or gasoline. This is a favor along with the launch of a new tender by the Indian government to renew its fleet of electric vehicles.

There are a lot of other challenges in India for Electric Vehicle manufacturers like

  • lack of charging infrastructure
  • Poor performance of electric vehicles batteries
  • There is a huge gap between the supply and demand of EVs
  • Lack of range in electric vehicles model
  • Lack of Loan options, high interest rates on EVs finance, high insurance costs.
  • Less number of maintenance and repair shops
  • Due to the high cost of Electric vehicles

Wrapping up

India's infrastructure challenges slow the growth of e-mobility in India. People still prefer fossil-fueled vehicles over Electric Vehicles. That's why manufacturers are looking for ways to build ideal Electric vehicles for potential buyers . We have noticed that global manufacturers like Morris Garages and Triton are in the process of modifying their models and EV plans for the Indian market. Triton is installing solar panels on the roof for batteries.
