What’s new this time?

Ford has produced a scent to commemorate the release of their new all-electric Mustang Mach-E GT. The scent targets individuals who wish to drive an all-electric vehicle but still enjoy the odours of regular gasoline vehicles.

The fragrance, dubbed Mach-Eau, combines smokey accords, rubber notes, and even an 'animal' element to pay homage to the history of the Mustang. Ford unveiled the scent during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an annual event that draws petrolheads from all over the world. The smell is part of the continuous campaign of Ford to debunk misunderstandings about electric vehicles and persuade traditional automobile fans of their potential, but it is not for sale.

“According to our study results, the sensory appeal of fuel automobiles is still something customers are hesitant to give up,” says Jay Ward, head of Ford of Europe Product Communications. He further added, “The Mach Eau fragrance is intending to provide them with a bit of the fuel-fragrance they still want. It should persist long enough for the performance of GT to dispel any remaining doubts.”

How was the fragrance created?

Olfaction, a famous fragrance consultant, designed the Mach-Eau fragrance using components that each provide a unique piece to the tale of scent. Pia Long, an Associate Perfumer in the British Society of Perfumers who has worked on scents for some of the global most well-known perfume companies, was important in its creation.

Her initial research focused on the compounds released by automobile interiors, engines, and gasoline. It includes benzaldehyde, which emits an almond-like fragrance from automobile interiors, and para-cresol, which contributes to the rubbery scent of tyres.

There were metallic, smokey, and rubbery elements created by blending components such as blue ginger, lavender, geranium, and sandalwood. An 'animal' aspect was also incorporated, giving the appearance of horses to emphasise the Mustang history.

Mach-Eau is not a product on sale. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, on the other hand, is now available to purchase online.

Variety

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT comes in two versions: GT and Performance Edition. With their electric motors, each can generate 480 horsepower and consume an 88-kilowatt-hour usable battery pack. The GT has a peak torque of 814 Nm, while the performance has a torque of 860 Nm. The GT can reach 96 kmph in 3.7 seconds, while the GT Performance can get to the same speed in 3.5 seconds.
