April onwards Rs 12.06 per kWh service charges will be applicable on charging an EV in Hyderabad

As the state government speeds up the process of installing public charging stations, EV users can charge their vehicles at a service charge of Rs 12.06 per kilowatt-hour from April onwards. The Department of Energy under the Hyderabad government has already issued updated EV charging station standards and guidelines in the city.  Under this policy, the state set the fixed service charges at public charging stations for electric vehicles. Agreed by everyone on the maximum charges for electric vehicle charging billing services, which are covered by government/central subsidies will be Rs 12.06 with applicable goods and services tax. In an interview, TSREDCO director Janaiah said that though the service charge is set at Rs 12.06 per kilowatt-hour it is still more economical than the price of petrol and diesel. For example, charging a four-wheel electric vehicle fully consumes 25 units, it will cost the users around Rs 300, whereas in the case of petrol, you can't get more than 3 litres of petrol at this price. Residential areas, on the other hand, only consume Rs 6 per kilowatt-hour, almost half the amount charged at public EV charging stations. He further added the cost of public charging stations is high because we have to provide infrastructure and staff.

Planning to Invest in an EV Charging Station?

90% of electric car users choose to charge at home or work. It was, therefore, necessary to think about suitable solutions to allow such use. The first thing to know: the domestic plug can do the trick. All cars are normally equipped with a cable to be plugged into a 220-volt outlet allowing a load clamped to 8-10 Amps using a power regulation device. Thanks to this domestic socket, there is no need to invest in charging stations. On the other hand, it has the major drawback of offering a very slow charge. Allow one night to recover all the energy from the battery. Depending on the vehicle model, this time limit can be greatly exceeded. Another constraint: the classic socket was not created to support such a load power and the risk of overheating is to be feared. Although it is recommended to have the entire installation checked before considering a load on a household outlet, this does not guarantee the absence of accidents.

At Home

Are you now convinced of the value of having a charging station in your home? One of the questions you will face concerns the installation of the device. Is it better to have it indoors or outdoors? The choice of interior is ideal if you already have a garage. This makes it possible to secure your electrical terminal, but also your automobile. And if you have both insured, this is a good point in the eyes of insurers, because your property is less subject to the risk of theft or damage by vandalism, natural disasters, or the like. Another thing: parking your electric car indoors is very beneficial from the point of view of autonomy. This is because cold winter temperatures tend to reduce the battery capacity. It then becomes less efficient during this season. Better yet, if your garage already has a heating system, you no longer need to precondition your cabin every time, which is essential to preserve the charge of the lithium battery.

Financial savings

Between public terminals, charging via a socket, and the home charging station, the latter is undoubtedly the most profitable for recharging. If your home is equipped with solar panels, your savings will be even more important because recharging your vehicle will be completely free. If your electrical installation is equipped with a two-hour system, you can take advantage of advantageous rates during off-peak hours to recharge. Owners of electric vehicles who charge at home save more or less 50% on what they would spend at the pump with a diesel vehicle.

Reduced charging time

The saving in recharging time is considerable. As stated above, with a home charging station your vehicle will be charged in 3 to 6 hours compared to 10 hours with the conventional electrical outlet.

Increased security

By using the traditional socket you risk overheating because it is not intended for prolonged use with such a quantity of current to be routed to the car charger. The charging station is directly installed on a dedicated line and protected by its differential switch (30 mA) and its circuit breaker.

Gain in comfort

You will not have to worry about whether the public charging station nearest is available or not, it is necessary to wait to charge your car, etc ... Simply plug in your car at night, and it will be fully charged and ready to use to start a new day.

At Public Station

If you don't have a garage or closed parking area, you have no choice but to install your charging station outdoors. On the market, you will easily find robust and waterproof models like the Kazam Mini, designed to withstand the vagaries of time. Having a kiosk outside is perfect if you want to make the investment in its installation profitable and offer it to the public for paid use. All you have to do is register and share your charging station on applications such as Kazam EV which are currently the benchmarks in the country. This solution is especially interesting for companies or professionals who plan to invest in a charging station in the open car park of their establishments. They have the possibility of re-invoicing the charging sessions on time, by package, by the act, or by the electricity consumed. An automatic supervision system makes it easier to manage invoices.
