Audi Quattro-inspired E-Legend EL1 electric car revealed

We all remember the Peugeot e-Legend, a prototype electric car created by the house of the lion that reinterpreted the lines of the classic Peugeot 504 Coupé and takes it to the future with a deceiving style. Now that name sounds again. The E-Legend EL1 is a new adaptation of a mythical car to the future of mobility, in this case, inspired by another legend such as the Audi Quattro S1 rally.

If electric cars have to be like the E-Legend, go-ahead

One of the barriers to the entry of electric cars on the market is that they are generally dismissed as unexciting, unfair performance, or even ugly but that may be changing thanks to initiatives like this one that we bring you today.

At the moment it is only a life-size model accompanied by renders, but the E-Legend EL1 is an electric car concept for which its creators have fixed on a mythical car of the WRC Group B era: the laureate Audi Quattro S1.

E-Legend is a small German start-up founded by Marcus Holzinger in the heart of the German automobile industry, a few kilometers from Audi headquarters in Ingolstadt. But the choice of the Quattro S1 was not accidental because Marcus's father was one of the designers of the Audi Sport Quattro. Holzinger Jr. is also not lacking in boards, having worked for the Volkswagen Group on some designs. Connecting the dots and seeing the possibilities for the future, E-Legend has been created to give birth to a reinterpretation. Also, the best of all is the green light that the Volkswagen Group could have given the project.

A look of E-Legend EL1

On the outside, the EL1 is a radical car. It takes the overall design cues of the Quattro S1 and modernizes them, with a tough-featured three-door coupe body, a grille starring black, and a heavily laid C-pillar cut horizontally by a black stripe. Other elements such as the white wheels or the hood air intake with three openings are also interesting parts. The rear is perhaps the least deceptive sight with a design of infinity lights linked in an ellipse of the LED light.

According to the information provided by E-Legend, the mechanical section of the EL1 would be configured around a carbon-fiber monocoque structure on which three electric motors would be mounted to achieve the all-wheel-drive that made the original Quattro famous, although without the sound. The front axle would use one engine, and two more would go to the rear axle to achieve a total of 600 kW (almost 820 hp) for a set with an advertised weight of 1,680 kg.

With this data, the company has announced a performance of 2.8 seconds to complete the 0-100 km / h and 10 seconds for the 0-200 km / h. The range would be hampered by performance and the EL1 could do two laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife before running out of batteries, that is, just over 40 km. In more or less normal driving conditions E-Legend estimates that it could reach 400 km. Some information suggests that it could use the 90 kWh batteries of the Porsche Taycan, although at the moment it is making castles in the air.

The best thing is that the EL1 will not come alone but will be accompanied by the EL2 and EL3 which in both cases will be modern iterations of classic rally cars, and a Lancia Stratos HF Integrale could be seen at the presentation. In the three models, the production announced by the brand is 30 units, but we will still have to wait, at least, until 2022.

Wrapping Up

The start-up E Legend presented a 100% electric coupe of 816 horsepower which is reminiscent of a rally legend. Indeed, the Audi Quattro of the 80s is the source of inspiration for this retro-futuristic car. The appearance of the EL1 is based on the Audi Sport Quattro S1. The vehicle was designed by E Legend founder Marcus Holzinger, the automobile designer who has been a motorsport fan since childhood. The fully electric EL1 is driven by three electric motors - one at the front, two on the rear axle - which together provides a system output of 600 kW (816 hp). According to E Legend, 200 km / h is possible in less than ten seconds, the top speed is limited to 255 km / h.

The 550-kilogram drive battery with a capacity of 90 kilowatt-hours (kWh) is stowed in the center tunnel and the lower area behind the seats. This should allow the EL1 to travel up to 400 kilometers even with a sporty driving style. The prototype of the EL1 should be ready in early 2022, and E Legend plans to build a total of 30 of the series version. This will be followed by two further series of 30 vehicles each, the EL2 and the EL3, based on Group B rally legends. All 90 cars are to be built by hand, the base price of an EL1 is just under 1.06 million euros. The first twelve EL1s should be delivered at the end of 2023, and the remaining 18 will follow in 2024.
