This is the time of year to be electrifying. In the year 2021, a number of new electric vehicles will be introduced in the country. With the government putting together a list of programmes to promote electric vehicles in the country, the automakers are putting their best foot forward. While government regulations are gradually shifting in favour of electric vehicles, customers are also gradually but steadily shifting their attention to electric vehicles.
As a result of the success that Tata achieved with the Nexon EV, as well as the introduction of the ZS EV by MG, the other automakers are clamouring for a piece of the electric vehicle pie. With profitability, demand, and other considerations in mind, a spate of automobile manufacturers are developing their own electric vehicles. What do you think? Electrification is gaining momentum in India's vehicle sector, with an increasing number of automakers coming on board. By 2022, our market will be flooded with electric vehicles, ranging from entry-level cheap versions to premium EVs from automakers such as Audi and Jaguar.
There are a few cars, however, for which the level of expectation is higher than for others. Here is a list of the top five electric vehicles (EVs) that will be launched in India this year.
1. Tesla Model 3:
Tesla Model 3 will arrive in India as a CBU (Completely constructed unit), with the possibility of local manufacture in subsequent years. Tesla Model 3 reservations will begin in January 2021.
Model 3 Tesla Tesla is anticipated to join the Indian market this year, with the Model 3 as its initial offering. Tesla Model 3 will be available with a choice of two motors. Tesla Model 3 will be available with three battery capacities: 50 kWh, 54 kWh, and 75 kWh. The Model 3's standard range will be 423 kilometres, while the Long Range versions will have a range of 568 kilometres.
2. Mahindra eKUV100:
Mahindra & Mahindra unveiled the eKUV100 at the 2020 Auto Expo in February 2020. The manufacturer initially targeted a starting price of Rs. 8.25 lakh, inclusive of FAME II subsidies, and we anticipate the vehicle's real pricing to be slightly higher when it comes in India.
The eKUV100 will be powered by a 15.9 kWh battery pack with a stated range of 147 kilometres. Following the Auto Expo 2020, the eKUV became one of the year's most anticipated debuts. However, due to the lockout, the launch was almost certainly pushed back further.
Mahindra is anticipated to debut the compact SUV by the end of the first quarter of 2021. The electric eKUV100 will be powered by a 40kWh lithium-ion battery and will produce 53 horsepower and 120Nm of torque. The automobile has a range of 120 kilometres and can be charged to 80 percent in one hour.
3. EV Tata Altroz:
Tata's Altroz has already raised the standard for the country's hot hatchbacks. By the end of 2021, the automaker plans to offer an electric version of the Altroz. Tata Motors plans to debut the Altroz EV, a new electric vehicle, in the Indian market by the end of this year. It debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, followed by the 2020 Auto Expo. The vehicle's specs are unknown at the present, although rumours imply that it will use the same motor as the Nexon EV. The 30.2kWh battery pack is projected to provide between 250 and 300 kilometres of range. Additionally, a DC fast charger can charge the battery up to 80% in an hour.
4. Hyundai Kona EV Facelift:
Hyundai revealed the facelifted Kona EV worldwide just a few months ago, and the car is scheduled to come in India in late-2021. Apart from the new appearance, the facelifted model adds more amenities over the outgoing model, such as a standard 10.25-inch digital instrument display, heated front and back seats, and so on. The 2021 Kona EV has a revised grille and a few other aesthetic changes. The list of alterations is completed with a new set of headlights and tail lamps, which give the automobile a futuristic appearance. The Kona EV 2021 is 40 millimetres longer than the preceding model.
The long-range variant is powered by a 64kWh battery that generates 204 horsepower and 395 Newton metres of torque. The base model of the 2021 Hyundai Kona EV features a 39.2kWh battery with a range of 304 kilometres, while the top-spec vehicle features a 64 kWh battery with a range of 483 kilometres. On the other hand, the base model of the car, which is powered by a 39.2kWh battery pack, produces 136 PS.
5. Jaguar I-Pace:
On the luxury front, Tata-owned Jaguar is anticipated to introduce the I-Pace in India in 2021. The Jaguar I-design Pace's is undeniably eye-catching. The I-Pace is powered by a 90kWh lithium-ion battery and produces 400 PS and 696 Nm of torque. According to the manufacturer, it has a range of 480 kilometres on a single charge. On the charging front, the car will be able to charge to 80 percent in just 40 minutes thanks to the DC fast charger. With a 0-100 kilometre per hour time of just 4.8 seconds and a peak speed of 200 kilometres per hour, the vehicle appears to be the best of both worlds.
