Top 5 Indian Companies Facilitating EV Transition In India

Tesla and Elon Musk are largely responsible for igniting the worldwide EV revolution. However, Tesla hasn't been the only one on this journey since then. Tesla is yet to arrive in India, while the majority of other automotive titans are already selling their electric vehicles.

Additionally, a slew of new automakers have played a significant role in spurring widespread use of electric vehicles (EVs).

At least in comparison to the normal time it takes for an industry to develop a foothold in a market, this expansion of the Indian Electric Vehicle sector has been exceptionally rapid.

Beyond the apparent benefits, the fast growth of the EV industry has left much unaccounted for or simply too chaotic for anybody to keep track of.

How many electric vehicle (EV) firms can you think of right now? Even if you are well-versed in the financial markets, it is unlikely that you could come up with more than ten, which appears to be an adequate quantity to come up with. There are more than 100 electric vehicle (EV) firms in India, but you may not realise that.

To be honest, it's easy to overlook the significant domestic companies in the electric vehicle market. There is a lack of familiarity with the business because it is so nascent and many of its stakeholders have only been in the market for a few years. Let’s keep reading to find out which companies have been facilitating EV transition in India for so far…

Mahindra & Mahindra Electric

A four-wheeler by the name of Reva was India's first commercially available electric vehicle. Reva was not born at the Mahindra & Mahindra factory, as often believed by the general public in India. Relatively soon after the Reva made its global premiere in 2001, Mahindra purchased RECC, the company that had developed the vehicle.

It's nevertheless clear that Mahindra's acquisition of the company demonstrates its intention of making electric vehicles more commonplace in India.

The benefits of the electric automobile were simple: It would significantly reduce the amount of money spent on gas or fuel each day. No emissions mean minimal upkeep and a car that's good for the environment as well.

The long career of Reva as E2O came to an end in March of this year. However, despite Mahindra's withdrawal from the EV competition, the company has continued to strengthen its EV portfolio ever since. In India, it now sells five different models of electric cars.

To start, there's the well-known eVerito, an affordable electric vehicle. In addition, there are the commercial EVs, such as eSupro, Treo and Treo Zor. The e2O Plus is still listed on the company's website as a legacy product.

Tata Motors
Tata Motors may have entered the EV race first, but Mahindra has made it a priority to establish a strong presence in the market. Having supplied India's government for years with its Tigor EV electric automobile, the business has now released its EVs to a larger public.

Since then, Tata Motors has become the face of new-age electric vehicles in India. Also, Tata Motors has no intention of letting up on the gas pedal anytime soon.

The company recently registered four new names for its future cars, which are expected to be the names of its next-in-line electric vehicles (EV). A total of ten electric vehicles will be available in India by that time. This means that Tata Motors will be at the forefront of Indian EV adoption for at least the next decade.

Ashok Leyland
Ashok Leyland has been in the electric vehicle industry for more than a decade, although few people are aware of this. A variety of commercial vehicles are available from the firm, including electric buses, trucks, and more.

For Ashok Leyland, a giant in the commercial vehicle industry, it appears that electric mobility will be a big part of its future. Ashok Leyland electric cars are not being released under the Ashok Leyland brand, but rather under the Switch Mobility Automotive brand.

Earlier this month, the subsidiary stated that it will be investing Rs 1,000 crore in the construction of a new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in southern India. Commercial electric cars will be mass produced and sold in both India and the United Kingdom.

Ola
Ola, a ride-sharing service known for its Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro electric scooters, entered the electric car market in 2021. Since then, the firm has established itself as a major player in the Indian electric vehicle industry, and is expected to continue to do so in the future. In the month of April, it outsold every other electric scooter maker in India, with 12,689 e-scooters sold. Ola may possibly be working on an electric vehicle for India in the near future, according to recent rumours.

In addition to electric vehicles, Ola is also focused on the country's charging infrastructure. It has been working with BPCL to build battery swapping facilities for its electric three-wheeler fleet across India for several years.

If this service becomes available in the future, Ola's electric two-wheelers will be able to make use of it too.

Hero Electric
The Hero name is now connected with a variety of powerful electric scooters that are now on the market in India. When it comes to sales in April, Hero Electric came in second only to Ola as India's top electric scooter manufacturer with these models.

Seven electric two-wheelers are available for purchase in India from this firm. Three of the vehicles have a peak speed of 45 kmph, while the other three are limited to 25 kmph. Velocity, an electric bicycle, is also included in this collection.

These are just some of the firms in India who are working on developing electric vehicles right now. Electric cars are manufactured in the nation by a large number of different companies, the most notable of which being Lohia Motors, Ampere Vehicles, Oben, Odysse, and TVS.

Obviously, there are also international companies involved, and they are showing a growing interest in the Indian market for their worldwide electric vehicles - facilitating EV transition in India.
