The State of EV Charging Stations in Bangalore: Trends and Challenges
The number and type of public charging stations required in Bangalore in 2025 and 2030 have been increasing as compared to previous years. Based on forecasts of EV penetration, charging demand, and charging a share of public charging stations in different market segments, the penetration of electric three-wheeler is much higher than the other segment.

Trends and Challenges in Bengaluru
Bengaluru has witnessed a significant increase including electric two-wheelers and electric-three wheelers in the adoption of electric vehicles in recent years. The number will increase as the Indian government has set a target that 30% of all vehicles on the road should be electric by 2030. As more people switch to electric vehicles, the demand for charging infrastructure also increases. This has increased the number of electric vehicle charging stations in Bangalore and private and public companies are investing in this sector. The electric vehicle charging industry is also making technological development by improving DC charging solutions and integrating charging management systems and smart charging technology.
One of the major challenges facing the EV charging industry in Bangalore is the lack of funding. Building electric vehicle charging stations requires a large capital investment, and many private companies still give a second thought before investing in EV space due to regulatory uncertainty. The regulatory framework for EV charging stations in Bangalore is still very complex. A compact, less complex, and standardized policy for the installation and operation of EV charging stations is needed to encourage private investment in the EV sector of Bengaluru. Lack of consumer awareness is not a challenge in Bengaluru only but it is emerging as a challenge across the country. Many people are not yet aware of the commercial and environmental benefits of electric vehicles and the accessibility to charging stations. This has slowed the adoption of electric cars across the country and the government is taking several steps to improve the adoption rate of EVs.
Initiatives
BESCOM has started a pilot project to install 112 electric vehicle charging stations in Bangalore. The company partners with several private companies to install these charging stations across various locations in Bengaluru. Apart from it, Mahindra Electric joined hands with Lithium Urban Technologies and Zoomcar to install electric vehicle charging stations in Bangalore. The company has installed more than 100 EV charging stations in the city.
Tata Power has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Limited (HPCL) to install electric vehicle charging stations at HPCL petrol pumps in Bangalore to increase awareness about green vehicles. Another EV company, Ather Energy has built its own network of electric vehicle charging stations in Bangalore and installed more than 100 charging points in the city.
The Indian government has launched various schemes and incentives to increase the adoption rate of electric vehicles and to improve charging infrastructure in the country. This includes subsidies for electric vehicle buyers and tax benefits for companies investing in charging infrastructure. Many private companies are collaborating with the government to install electric vehicle charging stations in the city. For example, EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited) partnered with BESCOM to install 50 charging stations in Bengaluru.
