Tata Power sets up fast EV charging station at Statue of Unity Gujarat
India's largest integrated utility company Tata Power has installed its first electric vehicle (EV) fast DC charger in Kevadia, Gujarat. As we all know that Gujarat’s Kevadia is well known all over the globe for its world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is 182 meters high, weighs more than 100,000 tons. Built at the Sardar Sarovar dam, in a remote region of Gujarat, the statue cost 350 million euros.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Kevadia will be the first city in the country to have completely electric buses, cars, and motorcycles running on the roads of Gujarat. The government has taken a lot of initiatives to promote green driving and this commendable;e initiative of TATA is in support of the government's drive to create Kevadiam, the first "electric vehicle city" of India.
How does this initiative work?
Users can find the charging point near Kevadia railway station. Electric vehicle users can use the Tata Power EZ Charge app to charge their electric vehicle at any charging station. The app provides an easy-to-use user interface that makes it easy for electric vehicle owners to set up, view, book, bill, pay, and check-in in real-time if they have access to the nearest charging station.
“Statue of Unity visitors can now travel in electric vehicles without worrying about charging. Tourists from cities like Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad are confident about driving an electric vehicle for such a long distance without any fear and worry" said Sandeep Bangia, head of home automation and ESCO at Tata Power Company. He also said that TATA is striving hard to contribute to the green revolution and is committed to set up Electric vehicle charging stations at most of the tourist spots, destinations, and national highways for the convenience of the EV travelers.
Tata Power is the only Indian utility company with an extensive network of more than 4,000 home EV chargers and more than 500 public retailers in 102 cities in India. The company covers all areas of the electric vehicle ecosystem, including public and private EV charging, special charging, household and business charging stations, and ultra-fast chargers for buses up to 240 kW in and around 80 cities of India.
Tata Motors also runs a number of exciting automotive-related programs, such as EV tours and mileage rallies, to make Nexon EVs more fun for customers and EV enthusiasts, just like me! Tata Motors, in partnership with affiliated Tata Group companies, has launched Tata uniEVerse, a preferred ecosystem that can accept electric vehicles in India and local production of key components and support infrastructure development.
Recently TATA announced on 30th June that it will bring ten new electric vehicles to India by 2025. Tata Motors is ready to accelerate its presence in the electric vehicles industry with plans to have new BEVs in less than four years. Also, Tata Motors announced that the Nexon EV sales have reached over 4,000 units since its launch in January 2020 and Nexon EV was the best-selling electric vehicle in India in the financial year 2020-21. The company's chairman N Chandrasekaran said the aim of bringing ten new electric vehicles to India is to make the business model "more sustainable." Tata Motors is looking for partnerships with companies in cell and battery manufacturing in India and Europe to ensure supply for its production of electric vehicles.
