River Indie e-scooter: Top Speed, Range and Price
River, a Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker, has developed the Indie, which it regards as the SUV of electric scooters. The Indie, which boasts a number of novel features, made its debut earlier this year at an initial price of Rs. 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). River has opted to increase the cost owing to recent changes in the FAME II subsidy, and the updated value has yet to be published. The reported pricing is presently only valid to Bengaluru purchasers, with others likely to wait until River releases revised rates before making a purchasing choice. Furthermore, while the scooter was originally supposed to come standard with pannier racks, this feature is currently only available to consumers in Bengaluru.
River Indie e-scooter: Design
The River Indie has a striking appearance that incorporates a dramatic front fascia with a square-shaped dual LED headlight set in a curved front apron. The side panels flow effortlessly into the boxy rear portion, which is accented by a rectangular tail light. Notable features of the Indie include integrated crash protection inside the body panel, pannier supports, a clip-on handlebar, and the addition of rider footrests for when the floorboard is occupied.
River Indie e-scooter: Specifications
The River Indie has a mid-drive Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that produces 9 BHP and 26 Nm of torque. While the scooter's peak speed is limited to 90 km/h, it can accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.9 seconds and has an 18-degree gradability. River says that the Indie is 1.5 times more durable than the segment standard, with an anticipated lifespan of 1.5 lakh kilometers. The powerful 9 BHP motor and well-tuned riding modes appeal to a variety of needs. The acceleration makes it easier to navigate city traffic, and the linear throttle response provides a smooth riding experience.
The Indie is powered by a 4 kWh Li-ion battery and comes included with an 800W charger that can charge it to 80% in around five hours. While the charging connector design is proprietary, requiring long-distance travel with the charger, a Fast Charger is in the works. The scooter has three riding modes:
- The eco mode has a range of about 120 kilometers and a peak speed of 50 kilometers per hour.
- Ride mode has a range of around 90 km and a peak speed of 70 km/h.
- Rush mode, designed for optimum fun, has a range of around 70 kilometers and a top speed restriction of 90 kilometers per hour.
River Indie e-scooter: Features
The Indie has telescopic suspension with hydraulic dampers in the front and twin triple-rated springs with hydraulic dampers in the back. The 14-inch wheels offer a sporty front-end feel while preserving rear comfort, making it comfortable to manage on both vast highways and city streets.
With a curb weight of 140 kg, the Indie is surprisingly agile, thanks to its parking mode that allows for both forward and reverse movement, allowing for effortless maneuverability in small areas. The Indie has disc brakes at both the front and back, with the front having a hydraulic triple-piston 240 mm disc and the rear having a hydraulic single-piston 200 mm disc. The braking system includes adaptive regeneration, which is triggered during braking, coasting, and partial accelerator release, with regeneration intensity determined by the riding mode selected. Overall, the braking system is dependable, even when stopping hard at high speeds.
The River Indie comes with an array of features, including LED lights, a fully digital console, and as already explained three distinct ride modes (Eco, Ride, and Rush). It is equipped with convenient amenities such as USB charging, underseat lighting, side stand cut-off, and CBS (Combined Braking System).
