Ola’s new helmet detection system

Ola Electric is also reportedly working on a new helmet detection system. According to a report by Autocar India, the feature will use a camera to detect whether the rider is wearing a helmet or not. The information, then will be shared with the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) which will then be relayed to the Motor Control Unit (MCU). The MCU unit will further decide whether the vehicle will switch to Ride mode or not.

Explain how the feature will work, the report says that if the vehicle is in Ride mode and the system detects that the rider is not wearing a helmet, the e-scooter will automatically switch to Park mode. Further, a notification will be sent on the dashboard reminding the user to wear a helmet.“Only if the system is able to detect that the rider is wearing a helmet, will the VCU allow the electric scooter/bike to switch to Ride mode, and it will then continue monitoring the rider," the report adds.

Ola is also gearing up to roll out a cheaper electric scooter, named the S1 air for which the brand opened booking in 2022.Ola also said that S1 air would be available with three battery pack option, but following the changes made to the subsidy structure for electric two wheelers under FAME-II scheme, the brand has dropped the 2kWh and 4kWh battery options for the S1 air.
