Maximizing Efficiency with Dynamic Load Balancing in Charging Station Management Software for EV Charging Stations
While using the home charging option we simply plug the charger into home power supply but that is not with public charging. There are many other EV owners who will be in que for charging their vehicle.Charging multiple EVs at the same time can put a lot of strain on existing electrical infrastructures and could lead to an overload. As an example, if four vehicles are present and in need of charging, and the current used for a 3.6kW charger is 40A, then each car would be charged at 10A.
What is load balancing
Load balancing distributes the available capacity proportionally over all active charging stations. In doing so, optimal charging is provided to all electric vehicles at your location, within the limits of your charging stations' capacity.
Although electrical panels can handle and supply energy , things become trickier when multiple chargers are used.
Charging multiple electric vehicles at the same time may lead to electricity load issues on your facility transformer. Also Increase the load sanction by your DISCOM is a costly process. That’s where local load or charge management systems come in. With this you can charge your electric vehicles while maintaining the load balancing.Let’s understand thi with an example, an electrical panel is capable of providing 80 amps and there are 4 chargers each needing 40 amps at full charge capacity,Then they would demand more electricity than the panel can provide, causing issues at the electrical panel. But when the chargers are able to communicate with each other, electricity can be spread out amongst all four charging stations.
Different ways in which load management supply electricity
Equally distributed load sharing -with this method each charger will get the same amount of electricity depending on how many amps are available and how many stations are being used. Using the example of the electrical panel that provides 100 amps and 5 chargers are there in que, each charger will distribute 20 amps, providing an even load between them. If one were to leave, each four would get 25 amps.
First in first charge - The first of the five charging stations would charge its electric vehicle at full capacity while the second vehicle would get as much electricity as it could with what was still available. If both vehicles are charging at full capacity with spare electricity would charge the third vehicle. Once the first vehicle leaves, the electrical load it was using would move to the third vehicle and so on.
Role of CMS (Charge management system)
Charge management system allows you to control how much electricity each charging station can use when multiple electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) units are connected to the same circuit.Once set, the chargers will automatically use your chosen protocol to balance how much electricity each can use at a time.
How CMS can help to maximise efficiency
In order to monitor, measure, and control the electricity charging loads, EV charging companies frequently use a Central Management System (CMS). It is a backend system that is hosted in the cloud and managed by the company that operates the charging station. It communicates with the CMS in order to manage user authorization, billing, and rate of charging, among other things. End-user-facing apps will be able to use the CMS to help them find the nearest charging stations, reserve a charging slot, and pay for their charges. Kazam is one of the best EV charging companies in India, and provides you with CMS as well as a mobile app that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
