India on the Road to Electric Mobility

When electric vehicles first entered the Indian car market, they met with scepticism. In recent years, the Indian market has seen a surge in electric vehicle sales. When people became more aware of the issues related to the environment and its conservation, they started heading towards these electric vehicles. It was also that Indian – the mindset of ‘Getting more in fewer costs’ which played a major role in their growth.

When Electric vehicles came

Eddy Electricals presented India with the first-ever electric vehicle, the ‘Lovebird', at the Auto Expo in New Delhi in 1993. It was approved by the Government of India at the time, which saw new prospects and hopes. Seeing new opportunities and hopes, it was approved by the Government of India too, at that time.

Electric Vehicles in comparison to traditional vehicles

Electric vehicles are economy–friendly, one of the main reasons they are making a unique place in the hearts of Indians. Compared to about Rs. 6.8/km, Rs. 4.8/km and Rs. 1.94/km for petrol, diesel and CNG, operating costs are very much less for the electric vehicles, keeping in mind that CNG is not comfortably available to all. Other than these, the battery costs and remaining expenses of EVs are 1 – time investments that pay the users well in the long run. Considering all these factors, EVs are certainly, having a bright future in a country like ours.

Challenge of Power Grid construction and Maintenance

Peculiar to EVs – The major concern of the users for EVs is the charging of the batteries. These days, concerns like these are also being addressed and sorted out. The main concern of EV users is the charging of the batteries, which is also being addressed and resolved. Many charging stations have begun to offer low–cost, simple–to–use charging options, encouraging users to choose EVs. This charging of batteries is also given prior attention as it is crucial for both the battery – life and efficiency of the EVs. In future, with the growing demand, community charging stations can also be constructed in healthy numbers, allowing multiple EVs to get rejuvenated collectively. Some facilities, similar to the Car – wash for other vehicles, may also come up for the good maintenance of the EVs.

Why should you choose Electric Vehicle?

Environment–friendly

The exclusive eco-friendliness of electric vehicles is, without a doubt, one of the most compelling reasons for their popularity. The use of electricity for vehicle operation not only saves the environment from pollution but also serves as a saviour for the nation's already depleted fossil fuel reserves.

Economical

The common Indian has always sought out items of the ‘Sasta – Sundar – Tikau' variety. The low cost of EVs has made them popular among the general Indian public. Though the one-time costs of battery and other requirements may initially scare the common man, with a long-term perspective, the same option is chosen.

Not only this, but EVs provide many other benefits to their users, such as low maintenance costs, silent cars, and so on, making the prospects of them supplanting all other alternatives in the future very promising.

Barricades in the path ahead

Mass Production

Though people are becoming more aware of the utility and benefits of EVs, the government is concerned about the mass production of these vehicles. Policies that may attract investors for a common goal should be developed to improve the situation.

Battery Manufacturing

Another issue that requires the government's attention and must be addressed in the future is the production of the most critical batteries.

Ultimate Expectations and Predictions

Overall, it is possible to conclude that electric vehicles have a very bright and shiny future in a country like India. If the few challenges are met with caution, it won't be long before we see electric vehicles smashing other vehicles out of the arena.
