Exploring the Electric Car Charging Infrastructure in Chennai: Where to Charge, How to Find EVCS, and More

One of India's largest cities, Chennai, has experienced a rise in interest in electric cars (EVs), which has led to the creation of EV charging infrastructure. To assist the increasing number of electric vehicles on the road, several organizations and governmental entities have been striving to create charging stations.

Chennai has charging stations at various locations like shopping malls, business districts, and parking lots, and a number of public charging stations have been installed across the city. Infrastructure for public charging has been aggressively installed by businesses like Tata Power, ChargeGrid, and others in Chennai. To promote the use of electric cars, the Chennai government has launched an EV policy that intends to offer financial assistance for both EVs and the infrastructure needed for charging them.

To promote the usage of electric cars for last-mile connectivity, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) had stated plans to construct EV charging stations at several of its metro stations. To meet the demands of residents and workers who own electric vehicles, several residential and business complexes in Chennai have begun installing private charging stations. A number of private enterprises and startups have entered the EV charging market, providing both consumers and businesses with a range of charging options in Chennai. Mobile applications like Kazam EV have been created by several businesses to assist EV drivers in finding charging stations in real-time and facilitating simple payments.
