1. Karnataka, Maharashtra & UP lead with highest number of public EV charging stations.

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal gave a statement in the Lok Sabha that the total number of public EV charging stations across India has crossed 25,000, with Karnataka, Maharashtra & Uttar Pradesh leading.

Among all states, Karnataka leads with 5765 public EV charging stations, followed by Maharashtra with 3728 and Uttar Pradesh with 1989. Delhi has 1941 stations, Tamil Nadu 1413, Kerala 1212 & Rajasthan 1129. Most other states have less than 1000 charging stations. The distribution of these stations remains unbalanced, with the majority concentrated in metros and larger cities.

2. Global survey finds 92% of EV owners won’t return to fuel-powered vehicles.

The Global EV Alliance, a network of EV owners from multiple countries (including India), conducted a survey covering 23,000 EV owners called ‘Global EV Driver Survey 2024’. The survey found that 97% of the respondents were ‘very satisfied’ with their EVs. When asked what type of vehicle would they replace their EVs with, 92% said they would do so with another EV, 4% said it would be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and just 1% said their next would be a fuel-powered vehicle. The survey also focused on what led people to buy their first EV. A large majority answered that the lower operating cost of an EV was the main reason while a considerable number also mentioned environment-friendliness. Interest in new technology was another factor.

The survey also talked about EV charging habits. When asked how people charged their EVs, 72% respondents said home chargers, 13% said public fast chargers, 7% said public parking spaces with charging facilities, and 7% said they used charging points at their workplaces.

3. UEI now facilitating over 13,000 EV charging sessions per day.

Unified Energy Interface (UEI) Alliance is now facilitating over 13,000 EV charging sessions daily. UEI has made significant progress in its mission to reshape the country’s energy setup. Since its formation in April 2024, the alliance has expanded to 30 members.

UEI is an open network community built on the Beckn Protocol, which standardizes financial exchanges in energy transactions. The alliance members include Kazam, Pulse Energy, Verde Mobility, Thunder Plus, Charge Zone, IONAGE, Lion Charge and many more. The alliance focuses on simplifying digital economic transactions between energy platforms.

4. Suzuki e Vitara-based Toyota electric SUV unveiled.

After the recent reveal of the production-spec Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota has unveiled the Urban Cruiser EV. The new Urban Cruiser EV shares the same foundation as the e Vitara.

Compared to the Suzuki e Vitara, the new Toyota Urban Cruiser EV has a different design. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is built on the same skateboard platform which underpins the e Vitara, including the battery & the motor. Toyota revealed that the car will come in two LFP battery options: 49 kWh & 61 kWh. The 49 kWh Urban Cruiser EV will come in one drivetrain option: front-wheel drive (FWD) while the 61 kWh variant will have two drivetrain options: FWD and all-wheel drive (AWD).

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is set to arrive in January next year and the new Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2025.

5. MG installs EV charging station at a university campus in Gurugram.

MG has installed an EV charging station at the BML Munjal University campus in Gurugram, Haryana.

Previously, the university had partnered with MG & Hero MotoCorp’s EV brand ‘Vida’ to celebrate ‘World EV Day’ on 11th September.
