5. New study by Accenture makes major prediction regarding global EV ownership.

Multinational consulting firm Accenture, in its latest study on EVs, states that across the world 57% of vehicle owners will have an EV in 10 years and EV manufacturers should focus more on the mainstream. Accenture collected its data based on in-depth interviews & surveys with 6000 car drivers across the US, Germany, France, China, Italy & Japan.

In 2023, around 14 million EVs were sold globally, with a 35% year-on-year increase. The study by Accenture says that so far EV manufacturers have successfully catered to 'tech-enthusiasts & eco-conscious' people. But mainstream drivers are different. They prioritize safety & affordability. The survey shows that 43% of non-EV drivers are considering an EV as their next purchase, and 47% of overall drivers are convinced that the future belongs to EVs. Accenture also categorized potential EV buyers in different profiles: the ‘strategist’ who values luxury, status & cutting-edge technology, but represent only 45% of potential EV buyers. The other 55%, profiled as ‘conservatives’ & ‘frugal’ drivers, who care more about affordability and how well these EVs integrate into their everyday lives. Issues like less EV charging stations, high upfront costs & potential lifestyle disruptions are important reasons which deter many drivers from switching to EVs. Apart from this, the study also talks about EV charging infrastructure in the US. Charging infrastucture has continued to expand in the US and a big positive has been identified as super busy spots such as Walmart & Costco also offering EV charging solutions now.
