1. Bajaj launches new series of the Chetak electric scooter.

Bajaj Auto, on December 20th, launched a new range of its Chetak electric scooter, named the Chetak 35 series. The new series has 3 variants: Chetak 3501, 3502 & 3503.

While the new electric scooter retains the classic look of the earlier Chetak, Bajaj has made several technical upgrades. The new Bajaj Chetak comes with a floorboard-mounted battery, which allows for a greater storage space. All three models are equipped with a 3.5 kWh battery pack, which provide an improved range. The upgraded Bajaj Chetak now comes with fast charging capabilities, taking just 3 hours to charge from 0-80%.

The 3501 variant is priced at Rs 1.27 lakh, the 3502 is priced at Rs 1.20 lakh. The top-spec 3503 variant's price has not yet been disclosed.

2. Maruti Suzuki shares 1st teaser of the upcoming e Vitara.

Maruti Suzuki has teased the upcoming e Vitara electric SUV ahead of its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.

Maruti Suzuki India has also announced that the company will introduce a comprehensive EV ecosystem along with the electric SUV, including EV charging stations, home charging solutions & EV resale avenues.

The Suzuki e Vitara will come in two LFP battery options: 49 kWh & 61 kWh. The car will feature BYD’s ‘Blade’ batteries. The 61 kWh battery pack will also have an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The e Vitara was earlier branded as the eVX. The new name and the production-spec variant was revealed in November 2024 in Milan, Italy.

3. Ghaziabad to get new EV charging stations post new year.

Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation will begin work on 20 EV charging stations from January 2025 onwards. These charging stations will be set-up under PPP model. Tariffs for slow charging have been fixed at Rs 8 per unit and for fast charging, Rs 15 per unit. The setting-up of an ‘EV Cell’ under the leadership of the city’s DM was also announced.

The new public EV charging stations will be set-up at Kanawani Extension, Indirapuram, Saur Urja Marg, Govindpuram, Patel Nagar, Raj Nagar Extension, Nandgram, Crossings Republik, Mohan Nagar, Arthala Metro Station, Rajendra Nagar and at bus stands.

4. Ola Electric announces dealership network expansion plans.

Ola Electric recently announced that it will expand its showroom network to 4000 by Christmas 2024. The company’s #SavingsWalaScooter campaign aims to connect with customers across Tier 2 & 3 cities. The stock market reacted positively to this news, with shares going up by 6.5%. 5. Ultraviolette opens showroom in Delhi; first in North India.

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Ultraviolette Automotive has inaugurated its 1st showroom in North India. Situated in Naraina in New Delhi, this is the company’s 12th showroom across the country. Before this, the company had opened its 11th experience centre in Mumbai.

Ultraviolette's new showroom, which it calls ‘UV Space Station’, features the company’s flagship F77 MACH 2 electric superbike. The bike comes in 2 battery options: 7.1 kWh & 10.3 kWh. The showroom also features the company’s fast EV charging station, which it calls ‘UV SuperNova’. The new facility will have a ‘3S setup’: Sales, Service & Spare Parts under one roof. The company plans to set-up showrooms in 30 cities in the next 2 years.
