1. MG Windsor EV is India’s best-selling electric car for the 2nd month in a row.
MG is dominating the Indian electric car market with its Windsor EV becoming the best-selling electric car for the 2nd month in a row. MG sold 3,144 units of the Windsor in November. In October, MG had sold 3,116 units of the Windsor, which was also the highest for that month.
In November, the automaker sold 6,019 cars, out of which 70% were EVs! Besides the Windsor, MG also sells the Comet EV & the ZS EV in India.
Recently, MG delivered 201 electric cars in Bengaluru in a single day. This delivery included all 3 MG electric cars, the Windsor, the Comet EV & the ZS EV. Out of these 201, 75 cars (MG ZS EVs) were deployed at the Bengaluru International Airport by Refex Green Mobility.
2. Terra Charge inaugurates EV charging station at Bhopal Airport.
Terra Charge recently inaugurated an EV charging station at Raja Bhoj International Airport in Bhopal. The charging station features both slow & fast EV chargers, and allows up to 4 EVs to be charged simultaneously. The charging station will cater to individual customers as well as EV fleet operators. EV owners can access the charging facility via the ‘Terra Charge’ app, which allows people to locate, charge, monitor charging sessions & pay online.
Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj International Airport has a daily traffic of around 4000 vehicles in which the percentage of EVs is increasing rapidly. Terra Charge is also offering free EV charging for the first month.
3. Hyundai joins hands with 3 IITs for EV battery research.
Hyundai has joined hands with 3 IITs for collaborative research for the automaker’s EV plans in the country. The 3 IITs are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay & IIT Madras.
The company will set-up Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE) within IIT Delhi, which will operate via sponsorships from Hyundai. The CoE will work on R&D in EV battery technology. IIT Delhi gave a statement on the occasion: “This partnership aims to drive transformative research and development that will shape the future of sustainable mobility in India. The primary objective of the MoU is to formalize the parties' intent to explore and initiate collaborative research activities in EV and battery technology.”
4. Delhi gets 25 new EV charging stations.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi recently inaugurated 25 low-cost EV charging stations in the national capital. Delhi Transco Ltd will operate the new charging stations. Each station features multiple charging points. These new additions took the total number of government-operated charging points to 78. Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was also present at the inauguration. He dubbed these EV charging stations as the ‘power banks of Delhi’.
According to a recent report by FICCI & Yes Bank, Delhi has emerged as the leader in EV penetration across India with an EV penetration rate of 11.5%. Kerala followed closely at 11.1%.
5. Hero MotoCorp launches the Vida V2 range of electric scooters.
Hero MotoCorp’s EV brand Vida has launched its new range of electric scooters: Vida V2. This launch marks Vida’s entry in the country’s sub-1 lakh mass market electric scooter market. Three variants of the Vida V2 have been introduced. The entry-level variant Vida V2 Lite has been priced at Rs 96,000, the mid-level Vida V2 Plus has been priced at Rs 1.15 lakh and the top-spec Vida V2 Pro has been priced at Rs 1.35 lakh. Each variant features different battery capacities. The batteries will be removable.
The Vida V2 Lite comes with a 2.2kWh battery and a claimed range of 94km. The V2 Lite has a top speed of 69 km/hr. The V2 Plus comes with a 3.44kWh battery and a claimed range of 143km. Its top speed is 85 km/hr. The V2 Pro comes with a 3.94kWh battery, a range of 165km and a top speed of 90 km/hr. The design of the V2 range of scooters is similar to the Vida V1.
