1. Zingbus secures fresh funding for electric bus operations expansion.
In a Series A funding round ‘bp Ventures’, the venture capital arm of British energy major BP, has invested $9 million in Zingbus. Founded in 2019, Zingbus provides a platform for bus operators & their customers for pricing, fleet management, route optimization & ticketing. Zingbus will utilize this investment in scaling its operations and integrating more electric buses on its platform.
Jio-bp pulse, the electric mobility joint venture of Reliance & bp, will provide EV charging services for electric bus operators using the Zingbus platform.
2. MG reveals specifications of the Cyberster electric sportcar.
MG has revealed the specifications & features of its much-awaited electric sportscar ‘Cyberster’. The MG Cyberster will be launched at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. The car will sport a 77kWh battery which will give a range of 580 km. The sportscar has been tuned by Formula 1 engineer Marco Fainello.
MG says the Cyberster will be India’s first electric car to feature Lamborghini-like scissor doors.
The Cyberster will only be available through MG Select, a new showroom network dedicated to MG’s upcoming range of ‘premium NEVs’ (New Energy Vehicles), which will include electric cars, hybrids & plug-in hybrids. MG India will set-up these ‘MG Select’ showrooms in 12 cities in the first phase.
3. BESCOM sets-up an ‘EV accelerator cell’.
BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd), has set-up an EV accelerator cell to promote EVs. It is being reported that Deloitte has been hired as a consultant to execute the project at a cost of Rs 83 lakh.
The EV accelerator cell in Karnataka will serve as a single-window access point for everything EV, providing information on (i) incentives, (ii) EV charging stations across the state & (iii) EV charging, battery swapping tariffs etc. The cell will be responsible for compiling monthly data and maintaining & updating a database of public EV charging stations, battery swapping stations and segment-wise EV registrations.
4. Ola Electric inaugurates 3200 stores in a single day!
Ola Electric set a huge milestone by inaugurating 3200 new stores in a single day, a four-fold increase from its store count of 800. Now the total number of stores & service centres of the company stand at 4000. This mega effort on part of Ola marks the company’s attempts to revive its reputation after a turbulent year characterized by thousands of consumer complaints regarding electric scooter servicing.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), company CEO & co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal said, “Almost every Indian town, city & district will have an Ola Electric store and a service center.”
5. New EV charging stations in Dehradun, Faridabad & Bhubaneswar.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami inaugurated 4 EV charging stations in Dehradun. The stations are located at Patel Park, Gandhi Park, Mussoorie Diversion & Kanak Chowk. The state government is working on 7 more EV charging stations at IT Park, MDDA Park, ISBT, Ballupur Chowk, etc.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (Odisha) is working on 25 new public EV charging stations. Out of 25, 10 are all-set to be inaugurated between 8th-10th January.
The Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (Haryana) is all-set to inaugurated 25 EV charging stations in January 2025. The civic body has signed an agreement with EESL, where the former would provide the land required for the stations and the latter would be responsible for installation, operation & maintenance. The upcoming EV charging infrastructure will not only cater to the local EV users but also meet the growing demand for EV charging services for vehicles that come from Delhi-NCR.
