1. Hyundai reveals details of the Creta Electric before its upcoming launch.
Hyundai India has revealed details related to the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The Creta EV is based on the Creta N Line. The electric variant of Creta will be launched at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo on 17th January.
The Creta Electric will come in 2 battery options: 42 kWh (claimed range: 390 km) & 51.4 kWh (claimed range: 473 km). The car can be charged from 10-80% in just 58 minutes with a DC fast-charger. And with 11 kW AC home charger, the Creta EV goes from 10-100% charge in just 4 hours. The charging port is located in the centre, beneath the Hyundai logo.
The Creta Electric will also come with ‘i-Pedal’ technology, which allows it to be driven with just one pedal. It lets the drivers accelerate, decelerate & stop the car using just the accelerator pedal. Safety features include 6 airbags as standard, 360 degree camera system, adaptive cruise control & lane assist.
Upon launch, the Hyundai Creta Electric will compete with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, etc.
2. Union Minister Piyush Goyal holds meeting with EV industry stakeholders.
At a consultation meeting held on 3rd January, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held deliberations with stakeholders from India’s EV sector. The meeting, jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) & the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), discussed strategies about the development of a widespread EV charging & battery swapping infrastructure. The Union Minister stressed on all petrol pumps & CNG stations to be equipped with EV charging & battery swapping facilities. This would address the issue of vandalism currently being reported. Also, this will ensure widespread availability of these facilities without excess concentration in specific areas.
The meeting had representatives from leading EV, EV charging & battery companies including Amara Raja (Amaron), Sun Mobility, Ather, Mahindra, TVS, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, etc.
3. BYD to showcase the SeaLion 7 electric SUV at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
BYD India has confirmed that the SeaLion 7 electric SUV will be showcased at the upcoming 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The premium electric SUV coupe is already on sale in the international market. After the expo, the EV will be launched in India around March 2025.
Internationally, the SeaLion 7 comes in 2 battery options and a choice between rear wheel drive (RWD) & all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. Its highlight, however, is its design and the coupe roofline. It will join the Atto 3 electric SUV, eMax 7 electric MPV & Seal electric sedan in the company’s India lineup. BYD India is also working towards expanding its dealership network from 27 to 40 locations by the end of January 2025.
Prices of the BYD SeaLion are expected to start from Rs 40 lakh and the car will compete with the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 & Volvo EX40.
4. Two major partnerships in the EV sector announced.
Ather Energy:
CBAK Energy, a leading manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries in China, has announced signing of an agreement with Ather to supply its Model 32140 cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells. In 2006, CBAK Energy became the 1st lithium battery manufacturer in China to get listed on NASDAQ.
Wardwizard (Joy e-bike):
Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility announced a partnership with C4V, a New York-based lithium-ion battery tech firm. Wardwizard manufactures EVs under the 'Joy e-bike' & 'Joy e-rik’ brand. As per the agreement, both companies will work towards developing prototypes with the right chemical combination and conducting testing for a stable LFP battery optimized for India's climatic conditions. In future, the partnership will focus on localizing manufacturing in India. The two partners aim towards delivering high performance battery tech leveraging on C4V's expertise in battery cells & architecture.
5. Tata Motors offering discounts on 2024 models of the Tiago EV & Punch EV.
Tata Motors is offering attractive discounts on 2024 models of the Tiago EV & Punch EV. Discounts are being offered as ‘green bonus’ and exchange bonus.
2024 stock of the Tiago EV XE, XT (MR) & XT (LR) variants, priced at Rs 8.57 lakh, Rs 9.61 lakh & Rs 10.63 lakh, get discounts of Rs 50,000, Rs 70,000 & Rs 85,000 respectively. The top-spec Tiago EV XZ+ variant, which comes with the 7.2 kW AC charger, gets a discount of Rs 60,000.
2024 stock of the Punch EV Smart, Smart+ (MR) & Smart+ (LR) variants, get discounts of Rs 40,000, Rs 50,000 & Rs 70,000 respectively. The Smart+ LR variant comes with the 7.2 kW AC charger.
