1. Exicom making news in EV charging sector.
Exicom has been awarded a tender by NTPC for installing EV charging stations in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh). Exicom will install DC fast-chargers of 120 kW & 50 kW capacity for electric buses.
Exicom has also announced an investment of Rs 100 crore to build a new EV charger manufacturing unit in Hyderabad. The company plans to commission the new facility in 18 months. The Hyderabad facility will serve both the Indian and the export markets.
2. Mega EV charging hub near Kolkata.
West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) has joined hands with Powerbank, an EV charging startup, to set-up eastern India’s largest public EV charging hub for in New Town near Kolkata. This EV charging hub is at Rajarhat New Town, approximately 17 km from Kolkata. Spread over 1150 sqm of land, the hub is presently capable of charging 25 EVs simultaneously. There are plans for future expansion which will allow 50-75 EVs to be charged at once. The facility currently deploys 25 GB/T connector guns. EV owners can access these chargers via the PowerbankEV charging app.
3. Uttar Pradesh government planning vast EV charging network.
UP government’s EV policy aims to promote EV manufacturing in the state and provide necessary EV charging infrastructure to EV users. To execute these, the state govt has assigned the Urban Development department the task of installing EV charging stations. The dept has started the process of extending the 'Comprehensive Electric Mobility Plan (CEMP)' to 17 cities in the state.
The state’s EV policy lays down guidelines for land lease & revenue sharing models for both government & private players. Private players will be selected as per the minimum service fee they quote in tender application forms. The revenue sharing rate will be updated from time to time.
Uttar Pradesh state government is also coordinating with NITI Aayog & Asian Development Bank (ADB) to prepare a CEMP which will be launched in 17 cities shortlisted under the Smart City Mission and later extended to other cities in the state. The plan will identify strategic routes as sites for setting-up EV charging infrastructure in a phased manner. A portal will be developed for CEMP to provide necessary information regarding electric mobility in the state.
4. Kerala-based startup inaugurates fast-charging station at Lulu Mall, Kochi.
Kerala-based EV charging startup 'GO EC Autotech' launched an EV fast-charging station at Lulu Mall in Kochi. PG Ramnath, CEO, GO EC Autotech gave a statement: “With the launch of our EV supercharging station at Lulu Mall Kochi, we aim to revolutionize the way people travel while reducing their carbon footprint.”
This is GO EC’s second EV charging station associated with Lulu Mall, the first one being at Trivandrum Lulu Mall. The Lulu malls at Cochin & Trivandrum are India's top two largest malls. The new EV charging station in Kochi features four ports with fast-charging facilities for electric cars and one slow-charging port for electric two-wheelers. The fast-charging guns are 30 kW & 60 kW and the slow-charging gun has a capacity of 3.3 kW. The cost of charging is Rs 18 per unit. More GO EC charging stations will be installed in the future at other malls of Lulu Group.
5. Hero MotoCorp Vida ties-up with IPL team Lucknow Super Giants.
The EV brand of Hero MotoCorp ‘Vida’, has tied-up with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the ongoing season of the IPL. This partnership will see Vida’s logo displayed on the helmets & caps of LSG players throughout the 2023 season.
Indian Premier League is one of the world’s most popular sporting events and with this tie-up, Vida is likely to benefit from the exposure & hype that comes with being associated with India’s biggest sports league.
