1. Tata Tiago EV launched. Prices start at Rs.8.49 lakh.

Tata Motors has launched the new Tiago EV at an introductory price of Rs.8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This price will be applicable for the first 10,000 customers. Tiago EV has become the most affordable electric car in the Indian market. With this launch, Tata Motors now has one electric car in each segment: SUV, sedan & hatchback. And there’s a loyalty bonus for Tata Motors customers as well. Among the first 10,000 customers, 2000 Tiago EVs will be reserved for existing Tata customers. The new electric Tiago will resemble the conventional Tiago in terms of design.

Tiago EV gets two battery pack options: a 24kWh with a certified range of 315 km and a 19.2kWh option with a range of 250 km. The electric hatchback also gets four charging options. It can be charged using a 15A socket at home, a 3.3kW AC charger, a 7.2kW AC charger and a DC fast charger.

2. New EV brand by Hero MotoCorp ‘Vida’ to launch electric scooter with portable batteries and modular charging.

Hero MotoCorp’s new EV brand ‘Vida’ will launch its 1st electric scooter on October 7. The upcoming e-scooter will come with portable batteries & modular charging technology. This will enable riders to recharge whenever & wherever they want. This new scooter by Vida will compete with Ola S1, Ather 450X among others. The company has reportedly priced the electric scooter aggressively to compete in a tough market.

Hero MotoCorp had announced the creation of this new EV brand ‘Vida’ in March 2022. The company will manufacture its electric scooters at its Chittoor manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh. The company has also tied-up with Taiwan-based ‘Gogoro’ for battery swapping technology.

3. EV charging company ‘ElectricPe’ raises funds.

Electric vehicle charging platform ElectricPe has raised debt funding from two investors. This comes after 10 months of its seed round. Micelio Technology Fund of Micelio Investment Trust has led the debt round with Rs.6 crore followed by NB Ventures with Rs.3.9 crore. In November 2021, ElectricPe raised $3 million seed funding from Blume Ventures, Micelio Investment Trust & angel investors: Ashish Goel, Bhuvan Gupta and a few others.

ElectricPe’s app lets users locate & access EV charging points which provide best charging rates. The company has recently partnered with Hero Electric to set up EV charging points in apartments and commercial properties across India.

As per data-tracking platform Fintrackr, EV startups have raised $670 million in 2022 so far, up from $570 million in 2021.

4. Multi-brand EV platform ‘BLive’ opens store in Kolkata.

Multi brand EV platform BLive has opened its first ‘Experience Store’ in Kolkata. Like all other BLive stores, this new store also has an in-house quick-service kiosk, battery swapping facilities and EV charging points.

BLive has opened this experience store right before the festival season. The company is planning to offer many festive offers to give a push to adoption of EVs.

BLive exhibits multiple EV brands to customers under one roof. The company offers electric two-wheelers, electric bicycles and electric delivery vehicles (all designed and manufactured by Indian brands). All BLive stores across India currently feature key brands like Hero Electric, Kinetic Green, Techo Electra, BattRE, Ampere, E-Motorad, etc and also offers charging solutions and post-sales service packages.

BLive has plans to penetrate the tier-2 & tier-3 markets and is looking for store partners on a franchise model to open more stores across India.

5. PM Modi to inaugurate 25 public EV charging stations in Surat.

PM Modi will launch 25 public EV charging stations in Surat set up at a cost of Rs.13.59 crore. The PM will also lay the foundation stone for 25 more public charging stations. All these EV charging stations will have DC fast chargers.

Surat had 1007 EVs in the city before the Gujarat EV policy was implemented. After its implementation, the city has a total of 16831 EVs plying on its roads. Out of every 100 vehicles registered in the city, 14 are electric!
