1. Chennai Airport gets EV charging points.
Chennai Airport inaugurated EV chargers courtesy joint efforts of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Oil. This is the first EV charging station commissioned by Indian Oil outside its petrol pumps. One DC charger (15kW GB/T) and one AC Type-2 (7.5kW) have been installed. The number of charging points may be increased if need arises. The chargers can be operated through a dedicated mobile app or RFID card. These charging points will be used for charging ground staff vehicles and passenger shuttle buses.
2. NIT Warangal gets an EV and 4 charging points.
National Institute of Technology, Warangal (Telangana) has received an 8-seater EV from Hitachi Energy. The company has also installed 4 charging points at various spots in the institute. The EV will be used by students and faculty members to move around the campus.
3. Kerala gets an app for accessing all EV charging stations in the state.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has developed a mobile app which will serve as a common platform for accessing all EV charging stations in the state. The app is called ‘KeMapp’, short for ‘Kerala E-Mobility App’. Kerala's Minister for Electricity K. Krishnankutty launched the app at an e-mobility conclave organized by the KSEB. EV users can use the app to get locations of charging stations, book slots and make e-payment after charging.
4. Amara Raja’s future-proofing strategy.
The Amara Raja Group, that runs the second-largest battery brand in India ‘Amaron’, has placed its bets on a new energy business unit to be its new growth engine. In 2021, the company repositioned itself as an ‘energy & mobility’ player in the industry as it seeks to expand its portfolio to cater to the electric vehicle market. Amara Raja’s strategy of ‘future proofing’ the business includes expanding the core lead-acid batteries by including lithium batteries, EV chargers, battery energy storage systems, etc.
The company will invest in Giga factories for manufacturing lithium batteries and EV charging solutions for the fast-emerging EV sector.
5. The new Tata Tiago EV receives 20,000 bookings.
Tata Motors has received over 20,000 bookings for the newly-launched Tiago EV. The Tiago EV was India’s most affordable electric car at the time of its launch. Tata Motors had launched the Tiago EV at an introductory price of Rs.8.49 lakh for the first 10,000 units. The 10,000 units were booked within a period of 24 hours. Therefore, Tata Motors extended the introductory offer for the next 10,000 bookings as well. The Tiago EV comes in two battery pack options. The smaller of the two battery packs is a 19.2kWh unit with a range of 250km.The larger battery pack option is a 24kWh unit with a range of 315km. The electric car supports 50kW DC-fast charging and when connected to a 50kW charger, its battery pack can go from 10 to 80% in just 57 minutes.
