1. Tata Motors set to launch the affordable Tiago EV very soon.
Tata Motors is ready to launch the Tiago EV, which could be one of the most affordable EVs in the country. The big question in the minds of auto gurus & consumers is: Will it be priced below Rs.10 lakh? The company already offers one of the cheapest electric cars in India: the Tigor EV, priced at Rs.12.49 lakh.
The Tiago was initially launched in 2018 and is currently available in petrol & CNG variants. The Tiago Electric was earlier showcased as a concept at Auto Expo 2018 (Greater Noida). The car is expected to sport a 16.5kWh battery pack.
Tata Motors with its Nexon & Tigor EVs has managed to capture 88% of the electric car market in India. Tiago EV could be a game changer in a price-conscious market like India.
Financial services major ‘Macquarie’ considers the Tiago EV an attractive opportunity for the Tata Motors stock to breakthrough. As per Macquarie, the auto major's stock might see a 12% upside when the car’s bookings begin.
2. Tesla plans world’s biggest EV charging station.
Tesla is planning to set up the world’s biggest EV charging station in Coalinga, Central California. The station will have 164 Tesla Superchargers. Apart from this, the company also has plans to set up two more big charging stations, each hosting 100 Superchargers: one in Barstow, South California and the other in Willows, North California.
Outside of the US, Tesla’s largest EV charging station is in Shanghai, with 72 Superchargers.
3. Ikea and Starbucks tie-up with Electrify America and Volvo respectively to set up EV charging stations at retail outlets.
Ikea is joining hands with Electrify America to install 200 fast chargers across 25 different locations. The first location is expected to open by late 2022. Electrify America has a significant presence in the parking lots of Target & Walmart in the US. Starbucks is teaming up with Volvo to set up 60 fast chargers at 15 stores before the end of the year. Michael Kobori, Chief Sustainability Officer, Starbucks said, “The intention behind this is to make electric vehicle charging as easy as getting a great cup of coffee.”
4. Finland-based EV charging company Kempower chosen to electrify a 5300 km route in Australia.
A 5300 km route in Australia will feature EV chargers from Finland-based EV charging company ‘Kempower’. This will be the world’s longest EV charging network. The route stretches from the South Australian border to the West Australian border. Australian EV charging company ‘JET Charge’ will supply some parts to Kempower for this project.
The Kempower ‘C-Stations’ can charge 2 vehicles at a time. When charging one vehicle, the maximum charge rate is 150kW. When charging two vehicles, this rate is halved to 75kW. This network will be operational by the end of 2023.
Australia is seeing an increase in electric road trips with more and more EV chargers being installed along the highways.
5. Hyderabad-based ‘LionCharge’ opens EV charging hub in the city.
Hyderabad-based LionCharge announced the launch of an EV charging experience centre at Jubilee Hills in the city.
The EV hub hosts a 50kW DC CCS2 socket as well as a 43kW AC Type-2, 15kW DC GBT and slow-chargers for two-wheelers. Customers can charge their EVs while enjoying snacks & coffee or relaxing at the lounge. The EV charging hub supports two, three & four-wheelers as well as electric buses.
