1. MG India joins hands with Shell for EV charging facilities.
MG India has teamed up with Shell to jointly set-up an EV charging network at Shell petrol pumps across the country.
As per the agreement, Shell will set-up 50 & 60 kW EV charging stations at its petrol pumps. MG customers will be able to access these chargers via the MyMG app & Shell station locator tool. MG currently has two electric cars in its India portfolio: MG ZS EV & Comet EV.
2. ChargeZone to set-up ‘supercharging’ stations.
EV charging company ChargeZone will invest $360 million over the next 4 years to expand its EV charging network. The company will install 25 supercharging stations for electric cars and heavy EVs like electric trucks & buses.
Charge Zone will install superchargers on busy highways in western & southern India including Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Mumbai-Pune-Bengaluru, Bengaluru-Chennai & Bengaluru-Hyderabad. The company claims that the average charging time at these supercharging stations will be 15 to 20 minutes. This is significantly lesser than 30 to 45 minutes it usually takes at DC fast-charging stations. ChargeZone had conducted a pilot test of superchargers for 6 months.
Charge Zone also plans to use renewable energy to power these superfast EV charging stations. Kartikey Hariyani, Founder & CEO, ChargeZone has given a statement: “Our new supercharging network marks a significant step towards a sustainable & electrified future integrated with microgrids comprising of Solar PV & energy storage.”
3. Tata Motors to launch the Curvv EV on August 7.
Tata Motors is all set to launch the new Curvv coupe SUV on August 7. The company will offer the car in both petrol/diesel and electric variants. Tata Motors will also become the first automaker in India to introduce a coupe-style car. The Curvv was first exhibited as a concept in 2022. It has been built on the company’s Acti.ev platform. The electric variant of the Curvv will be called Curvv.ev.
Tata Motors recently released a few teaser videos of the Curvv on its social media handles.
As far as its design is concerned, the Curvv will feature an LED front light similar to the Nexon, a sloping roofline & wrap-around LED taillights. The company has not revealed the technical specifications of the upcoming car yet. It is expected to be priced above Rs 20 lakh and will compete with the soon-to-be launched Citroën Basalt coupe SUV.
4. Nashik to get 9 public EV charging stations soon.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has approved setting-up of 9 new EV charging stations. These will be in addition to the 20 charging stations which are already a work-in-progress, and are being installed by Servotech Power Systems.
NMC officials have also approached the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for power supply for these EV charging stations. Each EV charging station will have two charging points each. Funding for the same will be provided under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) of the central government.
5. Bounce Infinity partners with British EV company ‘Zapp’ for an electric scooter.
Bounce Infinity has announced a strategic partnership with Zapp Electric Vehicles Group, a British EV brand.
The partnership between Bounce Infinity & Zapp EV will leverage Bounce’s manufacturing facilities & dealership network to bring Zapp’s i300 electric scooter to India. The i300 features dual portable batteries with a combined capacity of 1.44 kWh.
Bounce will manufacture the electric scooter at its Bhiwandi (Maharashtra) plant.
