1. MG Windsor EV becomes India’s highest selling electric car in October.
MG India has announced that it sold 3116 units of the MG Windsor EV in October. The company claimed that Windsor’s sales were the highest among all passenger electric cars sold during the month. MG also announced that it sold 7045 cars (ICE+EV combined) in October 2024. Out of these, 70% of the total sales were EVs, which is a remarkable achievement for any automaker manufacturing both ICE & EVs in India.
The Windsor EV comes with a 38 kWh battery which gives a range of 332 km. Under MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, the car costs Rs 9.99 lakh + Rs 3.5 per kilometre battery rental. The company is also offering 1 year free charging at public EV charging stations registered on ‘eHUB by MG’ app to Windsor EV owners. The price of the MG Windsor EV without the BaaS program starts at Rs 13.49 lakh.
2. PM Modi inaugurates solar-powered EV charging station at Statue of Unity, Gujarat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated a solar-powered EV charging station at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. The charging station has been set-up by Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL).
Backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the solar EV charging carport features solar panels and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The station can charge up to 10 EVs simultaneously via fast & slow EV chargers. The facility also features a seating area for drivers to relax while their EVs are being charged.
3. Ather Energy registers lifetime best monthly sales in October.
Ather Energy has recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in October, with over 20,000 electric scooters sold across the country. The company had sold around 12,000 scooters in September. Ather’s recently launched family scooter ‘Ather Rizta’, has been a significant contributor, accounting for around 70% of the month's total volume.
The company currently has 231 showrooms & 2500 Ather Grid fast charging stations across the country.
4. Tata Power opens EV charging station in Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh).
Tata Power has set-up an EV charging station in Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh). This is a strategic move by the company to energize the Eastern UP route between Ballia, Sultanpur, Gorakhpur & Azamgarh, all the way up to Lucknow.
The corridor starts with a 30 kW EV charger at a Tata Motors dealership ‘Puneet Auto’ in Ballia, while another 30 kW charger is now available in Azamgarh at the Sarvodaya Digital Library, supporting travel over a distance of 130 kilometres. Further along the route, Sultanpur features a 30 kW charger at Motel NH 56, followed by a 60 kW DC fast charger at Shalimar Corporate Park in Lucknow. Tata Power’s aim is to enhance connectivity between East UP to West UP to support the state’s growing demand for EVs by deploying EV charging stations at strategic locations.
5. Kerala to transform EV charging stations along highways into ‘Take a Break’ centres.
Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is planning to transform EV charging stations into ‘Take a Break’ centres for long-distance travellers. The new project aims to set up coffee shops, rest areas & washrooms near EV charging stations so that people can take breaks during longer trips.
Additionally, the state government is also working with hotels, lodges, restaurants & homestays along national & state highways to install EV charging stations. The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) will fund installation of solar panels and EV charging stations at shortlisted spots.
