1. Hyundai opens a rapid EV charging station in Chennai.

Hyundai inaugurated its first 180 kW EV charging station in Chennai. The charging station features two connectors of 150 kW & 30 kW each.

This DC fast-charging station is located at Spencer Plaza Mall, Anna Salai. It is accessible to non-Hyundai EV owners as well. People can locate, navigate & book charging slots via the myHyundai app. Hyundai India plans to install 100 fast charging stations in Tamil Nadu.

2. BluSmart opens its EV charging hubs for everyone.

Apart from its electric cab service operations, BluSmart also operates EV charging hubs, which has multiple slow & fast EV charging points. Now, the company has opened its EV charging network to other fleet operators & individual EV users. These charging hubs are located in Delhi-NCR & Bengaluru. The app, named ‘BluSmart Charge’, will help users find chargers for their EV, recommend compatible charging connectors, provide real-time update on availability of charging points and monitor charging sessions. The app also integrates a digitized entry & exit process at BluSmart charging stations and allows online payments. The startup is also working on expanding its EV charging network.

3. Zypp Electric receives fresh funding. Reveals expansion plans.

EV-as-a-service startup Zypp Electric has raised $15 million in funding from Japanese energy major ENEOS (formerly Nippon Oil). The latest funding is part of the company’s Series C round, which is projected to go between $35-$40 million. The funds will be used to expand Zypp’s fleet from the current 21,000 to 2 lakh electric scooters & extend its services to 15 cities across India by 2026. Apart from domestic expansion, the company is also planning an expansion in Southeast Asia by early 2025. Zypp has plans to have presence in 15 countries in the next 2 years, with potential markets including Indonesia, Thailand & Philippines. Indonesia will be the first southeast asian market where the company will enter.

At present, Zypp Electric has operations in major Indian cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai & Hyderabad, where it offers its services to e-commerce companies & gig workers. The EV-as-a-service platform of Zypp includes an app that provides data analytics for fleet & delivery management. The company has also recently entered the electric three-wheeler cargo business.

Gig workers can rent Zypp’s e-bikes on a daily, weekly or monthly subscription. This makes up about 28% of the company’s revenue. Rest of the revenue comes from courier, e-commerce, food & grocery delivery and ride-sharing companies like Amazon, BigBasket, DHL, Uber, Swiggy, Zepto & Zomato.

4. BYD delivers 200 units of the Seal electric sedan in a single day.

BYD India has commenced deliveries of its Seal electric sedan. The automaker recently held a multicity event, where it delivered 200 units of the Seal to customers in a single day. BYD had recently revealed that it received more than 1000 bookings for its newly launched electric sedan 'Seal'.

The BYD Seal is available in two battery options: 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh. Launched on March 5, the Seal is BYD’s third product in the country after the e6 & the Atto 3.

5. Upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD to feature a unique electric vehicle.

The upcoming sci-fi movie Kalki 2898 AD is in news for its star-studded cast. Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone & Disha Patani, there is another prominent figure in the film, the lead actor’s car named ‘Bujji’. The unique car is an EV which has been custom built by Mahindra, in collaboration with Jayem Motors. Anand Mahindra tweeted about this:

Bujji sports a 47 kWh battery pack and has three tyres, two in the front and one at the back. In a dazzling event held in Hyderabad, the makers of Kalki 2898 AD unveiled Bujji. The event was attended by more than 20,000 people.
