1. Insurance company Allianz secures patent for innovative EV charger in India.
Allianz Partners India has secured a patent for its two-wheeler mobile charger. The patented technology is titled ‘System and Method of Recharging Stranded Two-Wheeled Electric Vehicles through Two-Wheeler Mobile Charger’. The patent will be valid for 20 years.
The company’s ‘Two-Wheeler Mobile Charger’ consists of a 2.5 kW AC charging system, supported by a battery pack & inverter. It provides a 230V AC output to charge electric two-wheelers that run out of charge on the road. Allianz says its system is compatible with all two-wheelers, and is now available in key cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru & Hyderabad.
2. MG to launch its 3rd electric car in India in September 2024.
MG India is ready to launch its 3rd electric car ‘MG Cloud EV’. The model will be introduced in September 2024, and has already been patented in India. In international markets, the Cloud EV is sold in two battery options: 50.6 kWh & 37.9KWh. The claimed range is 460 km & 360 km respectively. The EV is expected to be priced between Rs 25-30 lakh in India.
The upcoming model will join MG India’s existing EV portfolio, which includes the MG ZS EV & Comet EV. The Cloud EV is expected to be a more premium offering than the ZS EV.
3. Exicom partners with a German company to expand EV charging services in India.
EV charger manufacturer Exicom has joined hands with German EV interoperability company ‘Hubject’. The two companies will focus on implementing Hubject’s ‘Plug & Charge’ platform in India. With this tech, EV users will be able to plug into compatible EV charging points & start the charging session instantaneously. This seamless process will be enabled by Hubject's automatic 'EV-to-charging station authentication’ technology, eliminating the need for mobile apps or RFID cards.
Hubject’s interoperability tech simplifies the EV charging process by allowing drivers to locate, access & pay for charging services through their preferred interface, regardless of the operator. This removes the need for multiple memberships & wallets, thereby providing a convenient & user-friendly experience.
Shares of Exicom Tele-Systems jumped 9% after the announcement of this tie-up. Since its debut, the Exicom stock has surged by over 86%.
4. Pune-based Clean Electric announces 12-minute charging EV battery tech.
Pune-based battery company ‘Clean Electric’ has introduced a new battery tech that can fully charge in 12-15 minutes, significantly reducing the current EV charging times. The company recently exhibited this technology in Pune with a live demonstration. A 2.2 kWh electric two-wheeler battery & a 12.5 kWh electric three-wheeler battery were charged from 0-80% in just 12 minutes using a BIS-approved Type 6, Bharat DC001 & CCS2 DC EV charging station. Clean Electric describes this as ‘revolutionary rapid recharging battery technology’. These batteries have undergone testing for 3700 rapid charge cycles, demonstrating only 11% degradation in the overall range.
In October 2022, Clean Electric raised $2.2 million in seed funding led by Kalaari Capital. At present, the company can manufacture up to 1200 battery packs a month at its facility in Pune (Maharashtra).
5. Oben Electric opens showroom in Delhi.
Bengaluru-headquartered electric motorcycle manufacturer ‘Oben Electric’ recently inaugurated its showroom in New Delhi. This is the company’s 1st showroom in North India. Previously, all of Oben’s 7 dealerships were in South India. The new showroom is situated in Pitampura in Delhi. The company aims to cater to customers in all of NCR via this dealership.
The company has also introduced a special offer for its ‘Oben Rorr’ electric motorcycle. Prices of the electric bike has been slashed by Rs 39,000. The ex-showroom price in the South Indian market continues to be Rs 1.49 lakh, but the Rorr is available for Rs 1.10 lakh in Delhi-NCR! This promotional offer is limited to the first 100 customers only. Oben Electric aims to have a total of 12 dealerships & service centres in & around Delhi by the end of this year.
