1. EV charging plans for Chennai Airport.
Chennai Airport’s multi-level car parking will have EV charging points very soon. EV owners arriving at the parking will be able to pre-book charging slots and make payment via a dedicated app. The west wing of the car park will have 3 EV chargers and the east wing will have 2. The charging points will be increased in future as demand rises.
The multi-level parking will also have a food court. The parking will not be limited to airport passengers. Local residents will be allowed entry as well. All this will open for public on August 1, 2022.
2. EV manufacturer 'Omega Seiki' to set up retrofitting plant in Punjab.
EV maker Omega Seiki Mobility is setting up a retrofitting facility to convert conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric vehicles. The proposed investment is $25 million. The plant will come up in Mohali (Punjab).
The Faridabad-based company, which is a part of the Anglian Omega Group, currently manufactures electric cargo 3-wheelers, passenger 3-wheelers & small commercial vehicles.
The upcoming facility will be operational in the next six months and will initially take up small and light commercial vehicles for retrofitting.
The company’s Chairman Uday Narang said, ”Retrofitted vehicles bring down the cost of an EV quite substantially compared to a new EV and offers a good option for the customers who hesitate from buying an EV due to its cost.”
3. Coal India’s plans to reduce carbon emissions.
Coal India Limited has plans to electrify the conventional vehicles which are in use at its sites. Coal India’s subsidiaries will also walk the green path. There are plans to set up EV charging stations at Coal India & its subsidiary's sites. The initial plan involves transitioning payloaders, which lift coal, to EVs. The aim to electrify vehicles & heavy machinery is reducing the public sector company’s carbon footprint. Electrifying heavy earth-moving machinery will help bring down long term mining costs as well.
4. Charge Zone plans to introduce renewable energy to power EV charging network.
Gujarat-based Charge+Zone unveiled its ambitions to use renewable energy to power its EV charging network. As part of this program, Charge Zone has successfully installed its first 200 kW solar power mini plant for Ashok Leyland’s electric buses in its Patna charging hub, which is now fulfilling around 20% of its daily energy needs.
Charge Zone provides EV charging facilities to Ashok Leyland, Volvo & Eicher.
The company just completed electrifying over 1000km of National Highways in India by constructing a network of 20 unmanned, app-driven, DC fast-charging sites along the Gujarat-Maharashtra National Highway.
5. Delhi Govt launches whatsapp chat helpline for EV owners.
The Delhi Government has launched a WhatsApp chat option to help EV owners find charging stations. People can also use the messaging app to know about the state govt’s EV policy and EV subsidies. It also helps one calculate the potential savings while switching to EV.
Here's how you can use the WhatsApp chatbot:
Step 1:
Save this number on your mobile phone: 9810336008. Once you save it, you will have the access to this number on WhatsApp. Simply send a ‘hello’ on this number.
Step 2:
After you send the ‘hello’, you will receive the following message: "Welcome to the official Delhi Transport EV chatbot. Through this official channel, the Delhi Government aims to spread awareness of Electric Vehicles along with managing all your EV-related queries at your fingertips.”
