1. MG Comet EV gets the fast-charging feature.
MG India has launched the fast-charging compatible variant of its MG Comet EV. The top two variants of the electric micro-car now come with 7.4 kW fast-charging compatibility. The highly-awaited fast charging feature comes with an additional price of Rs 56,000. One of the criticisms the Comet EV faced since its launch was the absence of fast-charging. It was only available with a slow 3.3 kW charger earlier.
Apart from the above, MG India has brought in new upgrades as well including rear disc brakes, hill-hold control, body-colored electrically adjustable ORVMs, creep mode and a new e-parking switch that replaces the manual handbrake on the top two variants. The variants have also been renamed. Earlier they were known as ‘Pace’, ‘Play’ & ‘Plush’. Now they will be called ‘Executive’, ‘Excite’ & ‘Exclusive’. The Comet EV range starts from Rs 6.99 lakh and tops at Rs 9.14 lakh. The top variant sees an increase of Rs 56,000. It retains its basic specifications: a 17.3 kWh battery pack which gives a range of 230 km.
2. Tata Power achieves a ‘green’ milestone.
Tata Power has announced that 1000 of its EV charging points in Mumbai now run on renewable energy. These charging points are located in public parking spots, residential societies, commercial properties & fleet charging hubs in Mumbai.
Tata Power's ‘green’ plans extend beyond Mumbai, with the company planning to set-up another 4000 green energy-powered charging points across the state of Maharashtra. This is in-line with the company's ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ initiative.
3. Jio-BP to set-up EV charging infrastructure at House of Hiranandani properties.
Jio-BP, which operates under the brand name ‘Jio-BP Pulse’, has announced a tie-up with real estate company ‘House of Hiranandani’ to set-up EV charging infrastructure at their properties in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai & Hyderabad.
The EV charging station installation process will start at Hiranandani’s marquee properties Hiranandani Estate & Hiranandani Meadows, both in Thane.
4. BYD Seal receives 200 bookings on Day 1.
BYD India has received 200 bookings for its newest launch, the Seal electric sedan, within a day of its launch. Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Sr VP, BYD India, gave a statement: “We are overwhelmed by the incredible response from customers in India. This demonstrates the growing appetite for luxurious & high-performance electric vehicles in India.”
Customers who book the BYD Seal before March 31, 2024 will receive additional benefits such as a 7 kW home charger, a portable charging box, roadside assistance and complimentary inspection service.
5. Volvo India launches a new variant of the XC40 Recharge electric SUV.
Volvo has introduced a new variant of the XC40 Recharge electric SUV in India. This variant comes with a single motor which is mounted on the rear axle. It is priced at Rs 54.95 lakh, down by Rs 3 lakhs compared to the dual motor variant.
The new Volvo XC40 Recharge single motor variant comes with a 69 kWh battery pack which offers a range of 475 km. The EV can sprint from 0-100 km/hr in 7.3 seconds. The claimed top speed is 180 km/hr. Features include an 8-speaker sound system, two-zone climate control, 12-inch digital display for driver, TPMS, park assist, 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, powered front seats and 19-inch alloy wheels. However, the new single motor variant will not have features like Pixel LED headlights, 360-degree camera system & Harman Kardon sound system, will are available in the dual motor variant. The Volvo XC40 Recharge EV has cars like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 and BYD Atto 3 as competition in India.
