1. Solar-powered EV charging station inaugurated in Hauz Khas, Delhi.
A grid connected solar-powered EV charging station has been inaugurated at Hauz Khas Village parking in Delhi. This pilot project is the brainchild of National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) & Delhi’s electricity distribution company BSES. The charging station was installed by Servotech Power Systems.
NSEFI is an organization which advocates for the growth of renewable energy in India. It engages with multiple government stakeholders, and provides inputs on policies related to renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro, biomass & green hydrogen).
2. GLIDA opens a high-capacity EV charging station in Gurugram.
GLIDA (formerly known as Fortum Charge & Drive India), has installed a 200 kW high-capacity public EV charging station at DLF Cyberpark, Gurugram. GLIDA has tied-up with Kempower, a Finland-based manufacturer of DC fast-chargers, to execute this project. This charging station has 6 EV charging points.
This project has consolidated GLIDA's association with DLF, with the former now operating 20 EV charging points across DLF properties.
3. Work on EV charging stations along expressways begin in Uttar Pradesh.
EV charging stations will soon come up along 4 expressways in Uttar Pradesh. In the 1st phase, 26 EV charging stations will be set-up along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway & Gorakhpur Link Expressway in UP. Development work for the same is underway.
As per the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy, 8 EV charging stations each will be installed along Agra-Lucknow, Purvanchal & Bundelkhand Expressways, and 2 stations along the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Ltd will be setting-up the charging stations. UPEIDA (Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority) has not fixed the charging tariffs at the moment.
4. Ola Electric continues to dominate the country's electric scooter market.
Ola Electric is continuing its domination of the Indian electric two-wheeler (E2W) market, achieving a 107% year-on-year growth in sales for June 2024 compared to June 2023. According to the government's VAHAN Portal, the company recorded 36,716 electric scooter sales in June. Ola Electric has the highest market share in India’s electric two-wheeler segment (46%).
The company has also received approval from SEBI for its IPO. Ola will raise around Rs 5500 crore through this IPO and the funds will be utilized in capital expenditure, debt repayment and R&D.
5. Nyobolt demonstrates an EV battery that charges in under 5 minutes!
Cambridge-based Nyobolt recently demonstrated an electric supercar powered by a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery. This battery can charge from 10%-80% in under 5 minutes! The live demo involved a 350 kW DC ultra-fast charger.
This tech is a step ahead of the 20 minutes it currently takes for some electric cars to charge at Tesla Superchargers. It brings us a lot closer to the 3 minutes it takes to fill up the average fuel-powered car.
At present, Nyobolt is in talks with 8 electric car manufacturers to sell its advanced batteries. Nyobolt CEO Sai Shivareddy stated: “Our extensive research in the UK & US has unlocked a novel battery technology that is ready & scalable right now.”
