1. Snap-E Cabs and Jio-BP open an EV charging hub in Kolkata.

EV cab service provider Snap-E Cabs and Jio-BP have inaugurated an EV charging hub in Kolkata, which houses 150 EV chargers, out of which 26 are ‘one hour’ rapid chargers. The charging hub is located in the basement of Axis Mall in New Town area of Kolkata. During the event, Snap-E Cabs talked about the significance of minimizing downtime for electric cabs, which is a key focus area for the company.

Snap-E is also working with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to set-up more EV charging stations in & around the city.

2. Rolls Royce launches its first electric car in India.

Rolls Royce has launched the Spectre, its first electric car, in India. The luxurious EV has been priced at Rs 7.5 crore. It is now the most expensive electric car in the country.

The Spectre features a 102 kWh battery pack, which offers a range of 530 km. It takes 95 minutes to charge the car from 10-80% via a 50 kW DC fast-charger. The very heavy (2890 kg only) Spectre can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just 4.5 seconds.

Rolls-Royce has developed the Spectre on its all-aluminum space-frame architecture. Originally designed in 2003, this architecture forms the foundation of other Rolls-Royce models as well (Phantom, Cullinan & Ghost).

3. Ather Energy reveals the name of its upcoming electric scooter.

A few reports appeared online which caused a buzz regarding an upcoming electric scooter named ‘Diesel’. Yes you read that right; an EV named Diesel. Then a few hours later, Tarun Mehta (CEO & Co-Founder), Ather Energy, came out and cleared the air about the upcoming electric scooter. Apparently, Ather’s soon-to-be-launched e-scooter was developed under project name Diesel. There weren’t any plans to finalize that name. The company CEO clarified on X (formerly Twitter), that the upcoming scooter will be named ‘Ather Rizta’ and will be launched later this year. The post also featured a short teaser of the same. The Rizta will be launched within the next 6 months at Ather Community Day Celebration 2024 (ACDC 24).

The Ather Rizta will sport a totally different design from the current Ather 450 series. It will be a family scooter and will come with a wide flat floorboard and a big seat. The new electric scooter will cater specifically to families unlike sporty & youth-centric models in the 450 series.

4. Omega Seiki Mobility joins hands with Kissan Mobility (OnEv).

Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) has joined hands with logistics company Kissan Mobility (OnEv) to deploy 500 cargo electric three-wheelers for last-mile delivery services. The deal between the two companies is valued at Rs 20 crores and will be completed by June 2024. Kissan Mobility stated that the company has faith in OSM’s products and their service support, which will be vital in this collaboration. Kissan Mobility aims to deploy 2500 electric three-wheelers and also four-wheelers by March 2025.

At present, Kissan has presence in Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh & Jaipur, where they manage multiple fleets for last-mile deliveries, serving clients across sectors such as grocery delivery, food delivery and pharma delivery.

5. Montra Electric presents a new campaign for its Super Auto.

Montra Electric, a part of the Murugappa Group, has launched a new ‘Bharat ka Super Auto’ campaign.

Montra Electric aims to reinvent the way autos are viewed, by presenting an environment-friendly passenger three-wheeler, the ‘Super Auto’. The company’s new campaign centers on the Super Auto, which comes in two battery options: 7.66 kWh & 10 kWh. The two battery variants offer ranges of 152 km & 197 km respectively. Both offer top speeds of 55 km/hr and come with regenerative braking system. Features include 4.3 inch LCD screen, storage box with lock & mobile charging socket. The Super Auto’s battery can be fully charged in 4 hours via a standard home socket.
