1. Bharat Petroleum launches 6 new EV charging corridors.
Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has launched 6 new EV fast-charging corridors. The corridors have been set up on Mumbai-Nashik, Pune-Nashik, Pune-Kolhapur, Pune-Solapur, Nashik-Shirdi and Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad highways in Maharashtra. Fast-chargers (CCS2) have been installed at BPCL petrol pumps situated on the above mentioned highways. To ensure convenience of EV users, the distance between two EV charging stations is around 100 km. Consumers can locate the EV chargers, monitor the charging process and pay online via the company's ‘HelloBPCL’ app.
Now BPCL has a total of 12 EV charging highway corridors across India.
2. Expected MG Comet specifications.
MG Motor India’s upcoming electric hatchback ‘MG Comet’ is eagerly awaited in the Indian market. The MG Comet electric car is likely to be launched in April 2023 and will be manufactured at the company's plant in Vadodara, Gujarat. The Comet will be a three-door compact car and is likely to come in two battery options: a 17.3kWh battery version with a range of 200 km and a 26.7kWh version with a range of 300 km. Tata Autocomp will supply the batteries to MG. Features include an infotainment touchscreen, automatic climate control, regenerative braking, parking sensors, steering-mounted controls amongst others.
The Comet will be MG’s 2nd electric car in India after the MG ZS EV. It is expected to be priced between Rs 10-13 lakh and will compete with the Tata Tiago EV & Citroen eC3 when launched.
3. Mangaluru International Airport welcomes more EVs.
Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has inducted two more electric cars to its fleet. The airport had added two EVs in August 2022 and has instated four more EVs since then. Five of the six EVs are used for regular operations in the airport and one is being used as a ‘Follow Me/Apron Control’ vehicle exclusively at the airside. The airport has a dedicated EV charging station in the parking area and has plans to set up another EV charging station at the airside.
4. Magenta inaugurates a sprawling EV charging depot in Bangalore.
Magenta Mobility has inaugurated a large EV charging depot in Bengaluru. This new facility is spread across 11,000 sq.ft. and features 63 AC chargers of 3.3kW & 3 DC fast-chargers of 15kW (GB/T) with additional space for further expansion. The depot has the capacity to charge 70 EVs simultaneously. A dedicated substation of 315 kVA has been installed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the chargers.
This is Magenta’s 35th EV charging depot in the country and the largest amongst all.
5. Charge Zone raises fresh funding.
Vadodara-based EV charging company ‘Charge Zone’ has raised fresh funds in the form of $54 million in equity & debt to expand its EV fast-charging network. The most recent funding round witnessed participation from existing & new investors. The company will roll-out 286 fast-charging stations immediately with the help of the new funds. Charge Zone plans to install 3000 DC fast-charging stations by 2025. The company has also given a statement that it will integrate solar & wind power with its charging stations wherever feasible as per the policies of different states.
