1. MG Motors small electric car set for early 2023 launch.
MG India has announced the launch of its small, two-door electric car ‘MG Air’ for early 2023. The Air EV is based on MG’s sister brand ‘Wuling’s’ small car of the same name which was launched in Indonesia. MG will make certain changes in the car to suit the Indian conditions. While the company is yet to reveal the technical specifications of the India-bound EV, the car is likely to sport a battery pack of 20-25kWh. The expected range of the car is likely to be around 150 km. The battery pack for the Air EV will be locally sourced from Tata AutoComp, which has a joint venture with Chinese battery supplier Gotion.

2. Auto companies plan ‘electric’ exhibits at Auto Expo in January 2023.
The 2023 edition of the Auto Expo is slated to take place in Greater Noida (Delhi-NCR), from January 13-18, 2023. Amongst the exhibitors that are listed for the expo include India's top carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, MG Motors India, Toyota, Kia and newcomer BYD. These automakers will showcase upcoming product launches and concept cars. Maruti Suzuki is likely to present an all-electric concept car as the Indian auto market leader eyes an entry into the EV segment in 2025. Hyundai is expected to showcase an affordable EV concept. India’s top electric car maker Tata Motors will introduce electric versions of Altroz & Punch.
Electric two-wheeler manufacturers Okinawa & Ampere (Greaves) will present their latest EVs. Omega Seiki will showcase new light electric three-wheelers. Switch Mobility (part of Ashok Leyland) will also exhibit new all-electric buses.
3. Two superfast EV chargers launched by Quench.
Quench EV Chargers, a part of Indo-German joint venture ‘Ador Digatron’, announced the launch of its new range of superfast EV chargers: 180kW & 240kW. The new Quench ‘Tallboy’ series of EV chargers have been tested in tough conditions and come with a variety of features to improve efficiency, ergonomics & reliability.
The Quench Tallboy provides rapid charging from 0 to 80% in less than 20 minutes. The charger is also ideal for city electric bus fleet charging. It supports CCS2 & CHAdeMO charging standards and also features unique features like retractable cable and handicap accessible user interface.
Quench is a part of the 115-year old Ador Group, which has a joint venture named ‘Ador Digatron’ between India’s Ador and Germany’s Digatron.
4. Iconic post office building in Kolkata gets an EV charging station.
GPO Kolkata, the chief post office of West Bengal and one of the most iconic landmarks in the city, inaugurated an EV charging station on 26th October. The charging station was supplied by Tata Power. Located in central Kolkata, the GPO recently inaugurated a café, named ‘Parcel Café’ as well.
5. Sona BLW rides high on EV-centric earnings.
Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar), a leading automotive technology company posted revenue of Rs.657 crore in Q2, up 12% YoY and profit after tax of Rs.93 crore, driven by a strong order pipeline, especially in the EV segment. The company’s net order book remained strong at Rs.20,500 crore, of which EVs now contribute more than two-third. Sona Comstar has also been awarded a new contract from an Indian OEM to supply differential assemblies for their upcoming EV.
