1. Mercedes looks to dominate as Tesla stays away from the Indian EV market.

Mercedes looks all set to lead India’s luxury EV market as Tesla chooses to stay out. Tesla is preferring to stay away from India citing challenges with the Indian government. The main challenge for Tesla is high import taxes. Mercedes is also planning to manufacture batteries locally in near future. The company is also working towards setting up a fast charging network nationwide. Mercedes Benz India expects 25% of its sales to be electric in the next 5 years. The company will be the first to assemble a luxury EV locally thus enabling it to price its car competitively against its rivals.

Mercedes plans to launch 3 new electric cars in India before new year.
Mercedes will set up 140 EV chargers nationwide by the end of the year, including ultra-fast chargers that can juice cars by up to 80% in 40 minutes.

2. US-based ElectronEV to enter India.

US-based ‘ElectronEV’ will enter the Indian EV space very soon. The company plans to bring commercial electric vehicles like delivery vans, trucks & buses to cater to the B2B & B2C markets. Eventually, the company will also introduce customized EVs, fleet management solutions and charging infrastructure. The company will adopt a unique strategy with respect to manufacturing where it will set up micro-factories in conjunction with a modular technology stack.

3. Plans unveiled for EV charging network expansion in Nagpur.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation announced its plans to set up EV charging stations across Nagpur city. The civic body has signed an agreement with Maharashtra Government’s ‘Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy Ltd’ which will fund & execute these projects. The municipal corporation has floated a tender to set up EV charging stations.

The municipal corporation also has plans to run all city buses on eco-friendly means.

Nagpur Smart City Ltd has also proposed to establish 13 EV charging stations in the city. Nagpur Metro Rail has already set up EV chargers for electric two-wheelers at metro stations in the city.

4. Adani-Total incorporates a wholly-owned subsidiary for e-mobility.

Adani Total has announced incorporation of two wholly-owned subsidiaries: Adani Total Energies Biomass Ltd & Adani Total Energies E-Mobility Ltd (ATEEL). The e-mobility subsidiary will carry on business of setting up & operating electric vehicle charging stations and do all necessary and incidental business activities in this regard.

5. Three firms join hands to accelerate EV adoption in Northeast India.

In a bid to promote electric vehicles in Assam and Northeast India, 3 companies: EVBooth,
LoadShare & Bikozee have announced a tie-up.

EVBooth is Northeast India’s biggest charge point operator (CPO) with 80 plus installations in Guwahati and 100 plus across Assam.

Loadshare Networks is one of the largest logistics service providers with over 200 logistic hubs across the Northeast.

Bikozee is an electric mobility service startup, which currently operates a fleet of 100% emission-free vehicles in Guwahati.

In a span of four months, EVBooth has been able to cover 80 plus locations in Guwahati and 100 plus across Assam. The company has presence in locations like Hotel Novotel Guwahati, Hotel Palacio, Central Mall, ShristriNagar (Northeast India’s first integrated township) and many boutique hotels.

EVBooth has partnered with LoadShare to make the latter’s hubs across Northeast EV ready.

EVBooth will also provide charging infrastructure to Bikozee across Assam.
