1. Ola Electric launches an affordable scooter and showcases multiple electric motorcycles.

Ola Electric has launched an entry-level scooter ‘S1 X’, positioned below the S1 Air with an introductory price of Rs 79,999. The S1 X is available in two battery options: 2 kWh & 3 kWh. The S1 X (2 kWh variant) comes with an introductory price of Rs 79,999 and will be priced at Rs 89,999 afterwards. The S1 X (3 kWh variant) comes with an introductory price of Rs 89,999 and will be priced at Rs 99,999 afterwards. A premium variant of the same, named S1 X+ has also been launched at an introductory price of Rs 99,999, which will cost Rs 1,09,999 afterwards. The S1 X+ comes with a 3 kWh battery pack and additional features. All 3 scooters have a range of 151 km and can reach a top speed of 90 km/hr. The S1 X+ comes with a 5 inch display, keyless unlock & smart connectivity. The S1 X (2 & 3 kWh) has a 3.5 inch display, physical key unlock & no connectivity features. Bookings have started and deliveries will begin by December.

The company also introduced the second generation of S1 Pro priced at Rs 1,47,499. With these launches, Ola's portfolio now consists of 5 electric scooters: S1 X (2 kWh), S1 X (3 kWh), S1 X+, S1 Air & S1 Pro.

The company also introduced four electric motorcycles which will be launched by the end of 2024. One of the 4 motorcycles is Diamondhead, an electric superbike, which will take on the Ultraviolette F77 upon launch.

The company also announced opening of 100 new customer service centres.

2. Mahindra unveils the electric variant of the popular Thar.

Mahindra showcased a 5-door electric Thar at an event in Cape Town, South Africa. Retaining its off-roading stance, the ‘Thar.e’ gets increased ground clearance and all-terrain tyres. Another big feature of the electric SUV is an augmented reality-enabled display.

The company's new INGLO-P1 platform will serve as the base for the new Mahindra Thar.e. This INGLO platform has been created with the objective of achieving a 5 star Global NCAP safety rating once the production version of the car based on this platform is launched. It is expected that the electric Thar will go on sale early 2025 in the Indian market. Mahindra will initially source the batteries & motor from BYD, for the upcoming XUV.e8, but for the Thar EV, the company will use more powerful motors sourced from Volkswagen.

3. Bharat Charge Alliance partners with CHAdeMO.

Bharat Charge Alliance (BCA), a platform dedicated to creating an interoperable EV charging ecosystem for light electric vehicles, is partnering with the CHAdeMO Association to develop tech for establishing a standardized charging infrastructure in India.

BCA consists of OEMs, EV charger manufacturers, charge point operators (CPOs) and battery companies. This alliance serves both electric two & three-wheeler users in B2C as well as B2B scenario.

4. BYD India set to introduce two new electric cars.

BYD India has trademarked two new car names and virtually confirmed the introduction of two new electric cars in the country. Applications for the ‘Seagull’ electric hatchback and the ‘Sea Lion’ electric SUV have been filed. The Seagull EV is already on sale in international markets. The electric hatchback, when launched in India, will take on the Tata Tiago EV & Citroen eC3.

BYD is also working on an electric sedan, the Seal, which was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. It is likely to make its India debut in the first quarter of 2024.

With these launches, BYD India will have a hatchback, a sedan and an SUV in their portfolio.

5. Renault India to launch an electric variant of the Kwid.

Renault India is planning to launch the electric variant of the Kwid hatchback in 2024. Experts predict the Kwid EV to be priced well below Rs 10 lakh and disrupt Tiago EV’s market. Renault is already selling the electric hatchback in China & Europe as Dacia Spring Electric. (Dacia is a subsidiary of Renault)
