1. Fisker to sell limited edition electric SUVs in India.

US-based electric car manufacturer Fisker has announced plans to launch its flagship electric SUV ‘Fisker Ocean’ in India.

The auto company will make its debut in India with the limited-edition ‘Fisker Ocean Vigyan’, named after Fisker’s Indian subsidiary ‘Fisker Vigyan India Pvt Ltd’. All cars will be imported into the country as CBUs. The EV maker has confirmed that it will arrive in India by September 2023. Battery specifications of the India-bound Ocean are not confirmed yet. The company also plans to manufacture cars locally in the near future.

The electric SUV’s top variant ‘Ocean Extreme’ comes with a solar roof that is claimed to produce enough power to provide a driving range of 3218 km per year!

2. Tamil Nadu shortlists 6 cities to set-up EV charging stations.

Tamil Nadu has adopted a cluster-based approach to develop EV charging infrastructure in the state and has shortlisted 6 cities for the same. The cities are Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Tiruchirappalli. Tamil Nadu is aiming to create a complete ecosystem for electric vehicles to achieve its vision of becoming the first & final stop for investors.

TN state government gave a statement, “Charging infrastructure is something which we are concentrating very heavily on.” The government also said that it will ensure that the charging infrastructure being set-up, takes into consideration the needs of individual EV owners and the shared mobility space as well.

3. Charge Zone launches ChargeCloud.

Charge Zone has launched ‘ChargeCloud’, a SaaS solution for EV charging stations. ChargeCloud offers a variety of software services that connect chargers to ChargeZone’s Charging Management System (CMS). For a subscription fee of Rs 499 per charger per month, charge point operators (CPOs) can gain access to all of ChargeCloud's features. The new service enables interoperability for CPOs allowing them to capture a bigger customer base and guarantees compatibility with a wide range of EVs from various auto manufacturers.

The new service includes a mobile app and a dedicated team of ‘ChargeMasters’, client service experts responsible for seamless operation and maintenance of subscribed chargers.

4. Goa announces ambitious EV-adoption targets.

Chief Minister of Goa, Mr Pramod Sawant made important announcements for the state’s EV-adoption targets. Speaking at the G20 India Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting, the CM stated that from 2024 onwards, all new tourist-specific vehicles in the state as well as the new vehicles purchased by government departments will have to be EVs.

All light motor vehicles (LMVs) purchased from January 2024 by state government departments will be EVs. All new tourist vehicles, rental cars and rental motorbikes in the state will have to be electric, January 2024 onwards. It will also be compulsory for permit holders having multiple tourist taxis and for rent-a-bike & rent-a-car operators to retrofit 30% of the fleet to EVs by June 2024.

5. Euler Motors consolidating southern market.

Electric commercial vehicle manufacturer Euler Motors, inaugurated four new showrooms in Karnataka and Telangana. Two retail outlets were opened in Bengaluru and two in Hyderabad. Apart from sales, all these will offer comprehensive after-sales services, including vehicle servicing & maintenance. The showrooms in Bengaluru are at Peenya & Mysore Road and in Hyderabad at Malakpet & Balanagar.
