2. Ather launches 3 new electric scooters.

Ather’s teasers on social media created a buzz regarding the launch of new electric scooters. One of these scooters was rumored to be a competitor to the Ola S1 Air. And now, the company has launched 3 electric scooters: the Ather 450S and two updated variants of the company's popular 450X.

The new 450S is positioned to compete in the 125 CC scooter market whereas the 450X is equivalent to 150 CC scooters. The 450S sports a 2.9 kWh battery which gives a range of 115 km and has a top speed of 90 km/hr. It features a non-touch 'DeepView' display instead of a touchscreen (as part of a cost-cutting measure). Prices start at Rs 1.29 lakh.

The 450X will now come in two variants: the 450X Core & 450X Pro. The Core will feature a 2.9 kWh battery and the Pro will have a 3.7 kWh battery, with ranges of 111 km and 150 km respectively. The Core is priced at Rs 1.38 lakh and the Pro at Rs 1.45 lakh. These variants come with newer features including regenerative coasting (which is claimed to improve range by 7%) and a new switchgear.

Ather had clocked impressive sales figures in July 2023, selling 7858 units, a brilliant 229% year-on-year increase. And compared to June 2023, the company witnessed a decent 21% month-on-month increase. Also, the company recently announced collaboration with Bharat Petroleum to strengthen its EV charging network. Leveraging BPCL’s widespread network of over 21,000 petrol pumps across the country, Ather plans to significantly expand its fast-charging Ather Grid network. And to meet the growing demand of its electric scooters, the company also plans to expand the capacity of its Hosur (Tamil Nadu) unit to 15 lakh units from the current 4.2 lakh units. The company is looking to raise funds by 2024 for the proposed expansion.
