EV Updates – Hyundai Inster EV, VinFast Ahead of Schedule in India, New EV Charging Stations Announced and more

1. Hyundai introduces its latest electric car, the Inster EV.

At the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea, Hyundai unveiled the Inster, a subcompact electric SUV. When launched, the Inster will come in 2 battery options: 42 kWh & 49 kWh, with the latter offering a range of 355 km. This new EV’s design is based on the Hyundai Casper, which was introduced in 2021.

The fast-charging compatible Inster can charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes, when using a 120 kW EV charging station.

The new electric car will initially go on sale in South Korea. From what if offers, the Hyundai Inster seems a very apt electric car for the Indian market. Expect an announcement regarding the same from the company very soon.

2. Raipur (Chhattisgarh) to get 5 EV charging stations in collaboration with Indian Oil.

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) will set-up 5 DC EV charging stations in the city, in collaboration with Indian Oil. RMC will provide land for the charging stations and Indian Oil will bear the installation costs.

The shortlisted locations for the EV charging stations are Netaji Subhash Stadium near Moti Bagh, Gandhi Udyan Park, Outdoor Stadium near Budha Talab, Anupam Garden & Central Library Jawahar Bazaar Parking.

3. The much-awaited Kisbee electric scooter spotted testing.

Peugeot Kisbee electric scooter was recently spotted testing on Indian roads. The scooter is expected to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. Mahindra co-owns Peugeot and when the e-Kisbee arrives in India, it is likely to be manufactured at Mahindra’s two-wheeler plant situated on the outskirts of Pune.

4. VinFast to start its operations in India six months ahead of schedule.

Vietnam-headquartered EV manufacturer VinFast, is all set to open its India factory 6 months ahead of schedule, in the first half of 2025. VinFast’s India EV plant at Thoothukudi (formerly Tuticorin) in Tamil Nadu, will be its third plant after Vietnam & the US. The company will cater to both the domestic Indian market and export the Made-in-India EVs to South Asian, Middle-Eastern & African markets. before localized manufacturing kicks off. VinFast is also working on a nationwide showroom network. And with the Tamil Nadu state government, the company is exploring opportunities in developing an EV charging station network.

5. EV startup River secures fresh funding.

Electric scooter startup River has announced new investments from Tokyo-based Mitsui & Co. & Marubeni Ventures (the venture capital arm of Marubeni Corporation). This funding is part of River’s Series B funding round.

River launched its first product, the ‘Indie’ electric scooter, which it calls the ‘SUV of scooters’. The company has a manufacturing facility with a capacity of 1 lakh units per annum. Earlier this year, River opened its 1st showroom in Bengaluru and aims to have its footprint in 50 cities across the country by the end of the year.
