1. IIM Bangalore and Alstom come together to support ‘green’ startups.
Alstom India has awarded a grant of Rs 1.5 crore to 10 clean energy startups as part of its ‘Sustainability Incubation Program’. A jury including innovators from Alstom, in partnership with the startup incubator of IIM-Bangalore, screened 200 applications and selected 20 startups for the incubation program. Out of these 20, 10 startups will get grant support.
Some of the shortlisted startups include electric mobility platform MetroRide, electric two-wheeler company Evoride, e-bike manufacturer Epick Bikes, EV retrofitting company Tadpole Projects, EV charging company ChargeEZ amongst others.
2. Hyundai India to invest Rs 20,000 crore to increase production capacity and introduce new EVs.
Hyundai India will invest Rs 20,000 crore over a period of 10 years in Tamil Nadu. The investment is intended towards increasing production capacity and introducing new electric cars. Hyundai has two manufacturing plants in TN. The company also plans to establish a battery pack assembly unit and set up 100 EV charging stations, over the next 5 years, at key locations on major highways in the state.
Hyundai India currently sells two electric cars in the country: Kona Electric & Ioniq 5. Recently, the electric variant of the Creta was also spotted testing on roads.
3. New EV charging stations in Chandigarh.
The union territory of Chandigarh will see installation of 44 new EV charging stations at different locations in the city. CREST, the nodal agency for implementation of the UT’s EV Policy stated that 23 EV charging stations are ready and a MoU will be signed with a private firm to operate these very soon. Also, installation work will commence at 4 spots: Multilevel Parking in Sector 17, Parking at Elante Mall, Parking area of Manimajra car market & Parking in Sector 44D Market. The Chandigarh Administration has already announced the charging tariffs: Rs 8 per unit for AC charging, Rs 10 per unit for DC fast-charging & Rs 11 for battery swapping.
4. Ather installs 100th fast-charger in Bengaluru.
Ather Energy installed its 100th fast-charging station in Bengaluru. ‘Ather Grid’, the company’s public fast-charging network, is India’s largest fast-charging network for electric two-wheelers. The company plans to install 2500 fast-charging ‘grids’ in the country by the end of 2023. Ather has installed its 100th charger at 'Third Wave Coffee' outlet at Banashankari in Bangalore.
The company has also signed an agreement with ‘Third Wave Coffee Roasters’ to set-up EV chargers at their cafes across the country.
5. Tata Punch EV spotted.
A camouflaged electric variant of the Tata Punch was spotted for the first time, near Lonavala. Images can be viewed on Instagram. Link here. The small SUV is expected to share the Tigor EV’s powertrain. When launched, the Punch EV will take on Citroen eC3. Prices of the eC3 start at Rs 11.50 lakh and Tata Motors is likely to price its new offering in the same bracket. The company is already working on the Harrier EV.
