1. TVS iQube electric scooter trending.
TVS Motors handed over 200 units of its iQube electric scooter to customers in Bhubaneswar (Odisha). EV adoption has been growing at an exponential rate in the state and TVS is consolidating its market share owing to an immense response to the iQube.
Throughout India, sales figures of the TVS iQube stand at 57,549 units in the last quarter, up a whopping 268% YoY against 15,645 units delivered in the same quarter a year ago.
2. Altigreen electric three-wheelers delivered to Magenta.
Bengaluru-based commercial electric vehicle manufacturer Altigreen recently delivered 200 units of the ‘neEV Tez’ electric three-wheeler to Magenta Mobility in Delhi. The 200 vehicles that were delivered are part of a 1000-unit agreement between the two companies.
The Altigreen NeEV Tez comes with three charging options (rapid, fast & standard). The 15 minute rapid charging is via Exponent Energy’s e^pump charger. As far as fast-charging is concerned, the EV can be fully-charged in 1 hour via a Bharat DC001 (GB/T) connector at any EV charging station. The neEv Tez comes with a GB/T port which is compatible with the DC charging station network in Delhi. The vehicle can also be charged through a 16A socket in 3.5 hours.
In the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, India has achieved a penetration rate of 21% till date. Delhi leads amongst all states with an impressive penetration rate of 63%.
3. Electric variant of Honda Elevate being planned.
The recently launched Honda Elevate SUV has been received well in the Indian market and has injected a much-needed sales boost for Honda Cars India.
Now, there are talks about Honda planning an electric version of the Elevate.
The company already has a hybrid car in its India portfolio (the Honda City has a hybrid variant). There are reports of Honda retooling its Tapukara (Rajasthan) plant and preparing it for the production of an electric car. The Tapukara facility is currently Honda’s only production unit in India. An increase in the plant’s production capacity is also being worked out.
4. Uttar Pradesh government starts ‘electrifying’ the state’s expressways.
The UP government has started installing EV charging stations along the state’s expressways. The charging stations will have battery swapping facilities as well. The expressways where the stations are being set-up include Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway.
UP government’s UPEIDA (Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority) has started this process under the PPP model. While a few EV chargers are already operational along some expressways, they don’t feature fast-charging facilities. Charging stations will be deployed on both sides of the expressways.
5. CESL to appoint CPOs to scale-up its EV charging network across the country.
Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) will float a tender next month to appoint EV charging point operators (CPOs) for expanding its EV charging network across the country.
CESL wants to scale-up its charging station infra through an ‘asset-light’ PPP model. CESL will offer land and private players will set-up & operate the charging stations on a revenue-sharing basis. CESL will join hands with multiple state governments to tie-up with land-owning state departments to make their land accessible for CPOs. CESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), which is promoted by the Ministry of Power (Government of India).
