1. Mercedes-Benz India’s EV charging experiment.

Mercedes-Benz India’s R&D department is in news for supporting an initiative of a former employee. ‘Evnnovator’ is a unique startup which aims to make EV charging easier & convenient. Built by an ex-Mercedes employee, Evnnovator offers the three options of finding, charging & paying at EV charging stations to its users through its mobile app ‘FICH’. Evnnovator is a multi-brand venture that any EV customer can use to locate charging stations in cities & highways. The company’s FICH app (Find Charger) will allow end-users to find the closest compatible and available EV charging stations by collecting data from multiple charge point operators. Rai Nitin Chitransh, Founder (Evnnovator) said, “Evnnovator will identify and tackle the problems of locating nearby electric vehicle charging stations. Our purpose is to provide all EV owners with a one-stop solution for all charging-related needs through a user-friendly interface.” Starting in October 2022, this app will be available on iOS & Android. Evnnovator is also be supported by EV charging company ‘ChargeZone’.

2. Kia India launches its fastest EV charging station in Kochi.

Kia Motors has set up India’s fastest charger at its dealership in Kochi (Kerala). The capacity of the charger is 240kWh. In June this year, Kia launched its 1st fully-electric car ‘Kia EV6’. Now, the manufacturer is on a spree of installing charging stations at its dealerships across India. Kia also announced that electric cars from other companies will also be able to use these charging stations on a pay per usage basis.

3. CESL opens solar-powered EV charging station in Ladakh.

Convergence Energy Services Ltd has launched a solar-powered EV charging station in Ladakh. CESL shared a tweet showing a Hyundai Kona Electric being charged at the newly launched station.

This EV charging station comes with a rooftop power plant and battery energy storage system (BESS).

4. EV charging startup ‘Exponent Energy’ raises $13 million.

Bangalore-based startup Exponent Energy has raised $13 million in Series A funding led by ‘Lightspeed’. With this fund, the startup plans to scale up its ‘e^pump’ network to 100 locations per city starting with Bengaluru, streamline its ‘e^pack’ production and deliver more Exponent-enabled EVs. Apart from Lightspeed, investors such as YourNest VC, 3one4 Capital & AdvantEdge VC also participated in the funding.

Exponent Energy has built a battery pack & charger called the e^pack & e^pump respectively. The company claims that its products together help achieve a battery charge from 0 to 100% in 15 minutes. Apart from this, the startup also provides a 3000 cycle-life warranty.

5. HDFC ERGO launches ‘All Things EV’.

HDFC ERGO, a private sector general insurance company, has launched ‘All Things EV’, a one-stop portal for Electric Vehicles.

The company has introduced a dedicated platform which helps existing EV users with information on nearby charging stations, locations of charging stations & information about maintenance of their EVs. Future EV owners can get information on all EV options available in India, along with the cost of ownership & subsidies offered by different state governments. Anyone looking to set up EV charging stations can also find out information on charging units, associated costs & profitability metrics.
