1. Uber India kickstarts its electric cab pilot project in Delhi-NCR.
Uber has started providing electric cabs to customers in some parts of Delhi-NCR and plans to expand the service in near future. Currently, electric cabs are only available for pre-scheduled trips. These are available through the ‘Reserve’ section on the Uber app, allowing customers to book a pick-up time up to 30 days in advance. Users can cancel their scheduled trips 60 minutes before the trip for no charge. Uber is working with OEMs & EV charging companies to gradually build its EV business in a sustainable manner.
Uber is already offering electric cabs in the US & Europe.
2. Haryana and its ambitious EV plans.
Gurgaon & Faridabad will be declared ‘model electric mobility cities’ with phase-wise goals to adopt electric vehicles and expansion of charging infrastructure at the two cities will take place. A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting under the chairmanship of Haryana CM ML Khattar. The committee approved setting aside a subsidy of Rs.164.66 crore annually for EV manufacturing companies under the ‘Haryana Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2022’. There were discussions to ensure skill development in the EV sector and offering financial incentives to EV manufacturers in the state in form of net SGST & stamp duty.
3. EV charging company ‘Tirex Transmission’ raises funds.
EV charger manufacturing company Tirex Transmission announced funding of $1 million from an ultra-HNI investor to ramp up its R&D and scale-up operations. Established in Ahmedabad in 2017, the company supplies DC chargers to government undertakings, private players & MNCs.
With a skilled team, cloud-based CMS (charger management system) and a fully equipped R&D facility, Tirex Transmission is all set to expand its business horizon. The company had previously raised $2 million in a seed-funding round.
4. Exicom to form a separate company for EV chargers.
Exicom is in the process of forming two new companies: ‘Exicom Power’, which will focus on EV chargers & ‘Exicom Energy’, which will focus on lithium-ion batteries. Exicom was into manufacturing lithium-ion batteries for telecom towers and later forayed into making batteries for EVs, followed by EV chargers. The company also provides EV charging solutions to fleet operators. At present, 40% of the components for Exicom’s DC fast chargers, including charging guns and other power components, are imported. The company’s current priority is to localise these components. The Gurugram-based company has also embarked into the software domain by building algorithms for fleet and charge point operators.
During the recent Hero Vida V1 electric scooter launch, the EV charger shown alongside was manufactured by Exicom. The company is planning entry into the European market soon. It also has a 40% share in Malaysia's EV charging market. Exicom’s top clients include Hero MotoCorp, Audi & MG Motors.
5. Electric One and TelioEV join hands.
Hyderabad-based EV charging solutions company ‘TelioEV’, has partnered with Electric One, India’s largest EV retail chain, in order to create a mobile application. As part of the partnership, TelioEV will provide Electric One customers with features like charger locator, vehicle registration with the name of the dealer, reward points, push notifications for offers, notifications about service camps, service reminders and an integrated test drive request on the app.
