1. Servotech to set-up research lab and EV charging station at engineering college in Greater Noida.

Servotech Power Systems has signed an agreement with Lloyd Institute of Engineering & Technology, Greater Noida to promote research and impart training in EV & EV charging technology. An R&D lab for EV charging tech will be set-up at the campus. Servotech also plans to install an EV charging station (equipped with a 14 kW EV charger) within the institute’s premises. The charging station will be compatible with electric two, three & four-wheelers, and will be free for Lloyd students & faculty. It will also be open for general public & students from other institutes in the vicinity.

Servotech released a statement: “We look forward to create a collaborative ecosystem that benefits students and faculty. The R&D centre equipped with cutting-edge facilities is all set to support advanced research projects, testing & development of EV charging technologies.”

2. VinFast to have its India base in Tamil Nadu.

Vietnam-based electric car company VinFast will set-up an integrated manufacturing facility at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. The company will invest $2 billion (Rs 16,500 crores) to set-up a facility to produce electric cars & batteries. The company will work with the Tamil Nadu government in a phase-wise manner for investing a total of $2 billion. In the 1st phase, $500 million will be invested over a period of 5 years from the commencement date. Construction of the plant is expected to begin this year itself. VinFast will also set up a pan-India dealership network.

The coastal city of Thoothukudi was proposed to VinFast as part of TN government’s efforts to decongest Chennai and distribute projects throughout the state. The presence of a major port helped VinFast choose Thoothukudi taking into consideration the export market. Globally, VinFast competes with Tesla & BYD.

3. EV company Erisha signs comprehensive agreement with Gujarat government.

Delhi-based Erisha E Mobility has signed an agreement with the Gujarat government to undertake joint initiatives in the field of renewable energy. Erisha will set-up an EV Park, a Green Hydrogen project and 100 EV charging hubs across the state.

The EV Park will be set-up in 320 acres of land with an investment of Rs 1500 crores. The 100 EV charging hubs will be set-up with an investment of Rs 400 crores.

4. Ayodhya to get electric cars and electric golf carts to ferry pilgrims.

Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh is focusing on ‘sustainable pilgrimage’ by introducing electric cars to transport devotees from the railway station to the Ram Temple. The Ayodhya Development Authority has inducted Tata Tigor EVs for this. The tariff rates for these have been set at Rs 250 for a 10 km journey. Electric golf carts, with a capacity of 6 people, have also been introduced.

The city’s EV charging infrastructure is also being developed in partnership with Tata Power. EV charging stations are coming up in different parts of the city.

5. Smartphone company Xiaomi showcases its first electric car.

Chinese mobile phone giant Xiaomi has revealed its first electric car, the SU7 premium electric sedan.

The company has made some incredible claims about the car. The Xiaomi SU7 will come in two battery options: a 101 kWh battery variant which will give a range of 800 km. And a 73.6 kWh battery variant with a range of 668 km. The battery packs will be sourced from Chinese battery major CATL. The batteries can be fast-charged to run 220 km in just 5 minutes. The claimed 0-100 km/hr acceleration time is just 2.78 seconds and the top speed is 265 km/hr. The company hasn’t released the prices yet.

In the highly competitive Chinese EV market, the Xiaomi electric car will take on BYD (with a 35% market share) and Tesla (with a 10% market share).
