1. Lucknow gets EV charging stations at 3 parks.
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has inaugurated EV charging stations at 3 popular parks in the city, Janeshwar Mishra Park, Lohia Park & Jyotiba Phule Park, to boost EV adoption & convenience. The initiative is aimed at providing EV charging facilities for nearby residents & park visitors. The charging stations at Janeshwar Mishra Park & Lohia Park feature 6 EV charging points (including 3 fast chargers), and the station at Jyotiba Phule Park (in the city's Ashiyana area) has 7 EV charging points (5 AC chargers & 2 fast chargers). More EV charging points will be installed near Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar very soon.
These EV charging stations have been set-up in parking areas of the 3 parks. These come under LDA’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, and a private company has received the contract for operation & maintenance of the EV chargers in these spots.
2. Plans for setting-up 2000 EV charging stations in Kerala announced.
The 'Kerala State Cooperative Institute of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications' (COSTECH), based in Thiruvananthapuram, has announced setting-up of 2000 EV charging stations across Kerala in partnership with ESYGO, an EV charger manufacturer & EV charging network operator. The two partners aim to set-up EV charging infrastructure across the state, from major cities to rural areas, by 2030. The EV charging stations jointly set-up by COSTECH & ESYGO, will be open 24/7 and feature coffee shops, internet cafes & public information centres. These fast charging stations will be compatible with EVs ranging from small electric cars to trucks. The two partners have started working on a cloud management system & a mobile app for online payments.
All EV charging stations under this partnership will be set-up in compliance within the guidelines of the central government regarding installation & operation of EV charging infrastructure. Technical assistance & bank loans will be provided to individuals, groups, cooperatives & organizations with at least 500 sq ft of space, either owned or leased, to install charging stations under the COSTECH-ESYGO project.
3. Mahindra to launch 2 electric SUVs in Chennai on 26 November.
Mahindra is all-set to launch 2 electric cars: XEV 9e & BE 6e, at the upcoming ‘Unlimit India’ event in Chennai on 26 November.
These new electric cars will be Mahindra’s first vehicles built on its advanced 'INGLO' architecture.
Mahindra currently sells only one electric car in the country, the XUV400 EV. Both the Mahindra XEV 9e & BE 6e will be positioned above the XUV400.
4. Skoda India announces its plans for the Enyaq EV.
Skoda India will make its entry into the country’s electric car market next year. The Skoda Enyaq EV will be launched after being showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo in January.. Company officials stated that the delay in the launch of the Enyaq has been due to the car’s updated version. Skoda is planning a significant facelift before launching the Enyaq in India.
Skoda recently announced an investment of Rs 15,000 crore in India to upgrade the company’s Pune facility. Apart from fuel-powered cars, the plant will also manufacture electric & hybrid cars, and act as Skoda’s hub catering to both domestic & international markets in the future.
5. Honda preparing to finally launch the Activa Electric in India.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced the launch of its 1st electric scooter in the country on 27 November. Honda India has sent invites to media houses for a possible launch of a new electric two-wheeler. The launch invite features the words ‘Watts Ahead’ and a lightning bolt. This is expected to be Honda’s first electric scooter in India. It is being presumed that this will be the much-awaited Activa Electric or eActiva. The Honda Activa is a household name in the Indian two-wheeler market and Honda will surely capitalize on the brand. Multiple reports say that Honda will launch the ‘CUV e:’ electric scooter in India as the Activa Electric.
Although lookwise the CUV e: is not similar to the petrol Activa available in India, its still being touted as the new Activa EV. The new CUV e: will feature twin battery packs that offer 70 kilometres each when charged. Experts claim performance of this electric scooter will be comparable to a 110 cc petrol scooter. Honda India’s EV plan will focus on 3 main pillars, referred to as the 3 Es. The first, ‘Platform E’, will serve as a dedicated EV architecture designed to support electric two-wheelers with options for both fixed & swappable batteries. The second pillar, ‘Workshop E’, will focus on upgrading Honda’s dealerships & service stations across the country with EV charging points, battery swapping stations & service equipment. And as part of its long-term EV goals, the third pillar, Honda’s EV R&D Centre has already been inaugurated in Bengaluru earlier this year.
