1. Exponent Energy collaborates with Montra Electric.

Bengaluru-based energy tech company Exponent Energy has joined hands with Montra Electric, the EV brand of Murugappa Group, to develop fast charging electric three-wheelers.

Montra Electric will launch a fast charging electric three-wheeler that will be equipped with Exponent’s 8.8 kWh ‘e^pack’ battery and will charge from 0-100% in just 15 minutes at Exponent’s ‘e^pump’ EV charging network.

Exponent Energy’s revolutionary energy stack consisting of the e^pack battery, e^pump charging station and e^plug connector, has successfully made 15-minute rapid charging a reality. At present, Exponent has commercial operations in Bengaluru with a network of 30 ‘e^pump’ charging stations. The company has plans to expand its network to Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai & Ahmedabad soon.

Montra Electric currently has the ‘Super Auto’ passenger e3 wheeler in its portfolio and will launch a cargo e3 wheeler in 2024 Q1. The company has good presence in the South Indian market with 40 outlets and is working on expanding into other parts of the country.

2. Statiq signs an agreement to set-up EV charging stations in Greater Noida.

Gurugram-based EV charging company Statiq has signed an agreement with Noida Power Company Ltd (NPCL) to set-up EV charging stations at residential buildings in Greater Noida.

NPCL will finalize appropriate sites for Statiq to build these EV charging stations. In the first stage of this tie-up, Statiq will install 300 EV charging stations in Greater Noida. 250 of these will be in residential areas, while 50 will be set-up at busy public spots like malls & markets. The first phase is likely to be completed by the end of FY2024. After that, the second phase will commence and involve setting-up 1000 charging stations in Greater Noida before 2025.

3. Ola Electric showcases its electric motorcycles at MotoGP Bharat.

Ola Electric recently exhibited its four electric motorcycles at the first MotoGP Bharat held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

Ola also provided 150 electric scooters, which replaced the conventional two-wheelers in support duties during the race. This partnership was in line with MotoGP’s efforts towards sustainable operations.

Anshul Khandelwal, Chief Marketing Officer, Ola Electric gave a statement: “Our portfolio reflects the motorcycle philosophy in true spirit & reimagines motorcycles in every aspect. We at Ola are determined to take indigenously developed innovations to a global scale, placing India firmly on the global EV and motorcycle map.”

The company has not announced any specifications or launch dates of the electric bikes yet.

4. MG planning a second manufacturing plant in India.

MG is planning a second manufacturing unit in India. At present, MG India operates a facility located in Halol (Gujarat), which has an annual capacity of 1.20 lakh units. Apart from this, the automaker is evaluating a battery assembly unit near the Halol plant.

MG India is actively working with Jio-BP to expand the duo’s EV charging network.

The company already exports vehicles to SAARC nations and is exploring more opportunities in overseas markets.

5. Tamil Nadu contributes handsomely in India’s EV sales.

As much as 40% of all EVs sold this year in the country were manufactured in Tamil Nadu. A total of 10,44,600 EVs were registered with various RTOs till 20 September, 2023 as per data from Ministry of Road Transport’s ‘VAHAN’ dashboard. Out of these, 4,14,802 electric vehicles were produced in TN. Top EV manufacturers Ola Electric, TVS Motors, Ather & Ampere, have their EV manufacturing plants in the state. Out of these, 3 are based in Krishnagiri district, often called India’s EV capital. Ola registered sales of 1,75,608 units, TVS 1,12,949 and Ather 77,764. Ampere is based in Ranipet and sold 41,757 units. Other EV-manufacturing players in the state include BYD India, Citroen India, eRoyce, Hyundai India, Reep Motors and Montra Electric.

The Tamil Nadu state government has further identified 6 cities, namely Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Salem & Chennai, for development as electric vehicle hubs.
