2. Central Government planning an EV charging ‘Master App’.
The central govt is planning a ‘master app’ that will show EV users their nearest EV charging station and real-time availability of charging slots. This master app project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). NITI Aayog held a meeting with EV charging companies and e-mobility service providers to discuss the roll-out of a beta version of the app in the coming weeks.
Through this app, EV drivers will be able to book charging slots in advance and make online payments.
A big challenge faced by EV users is that most charging companies have their own apps which show just their EV chargers on maps. The government believes a master app which shows charging stations of all companies will address this challenge. Govt-owned Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) had suggested a similar app in the past but things didn’t go forward. Sources say that participants in the Niti Aayog meeting expressed their concerns regarding sharing data of customers and proprietary data with third parties once the app is launched.
