1. Ather rides high on October sales and new EV charging stations.
Bangalore-based EV startup Ather has revealed its sales figures for October 2022. The company sold 8213 electric scooters last month, recording a 122% YoY growth. Ather also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2022 and crossed the 8000 mark for the first time. On a month-on-month basis, the company’s sales increased by 10.5% as in September 2022 its EV sales stood at 7435 units.
Ather Energy has presence in more than 50 cities in India with 60+ showrooms. The company inaugurated eight new ‘experience centres’ last month at Pondicherry, Jodhpur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Vellore, Ludhiana & Madurai. Ather also achieved two big milestones. They delivered 250 units of the Ather 450X in a single day in Bengaluru on Diwali. And the company installed 500 charging stations across India in October.
2. IIT Gandhinagar innovates technology to aid ultra fast charging.
A team of researchers from IIT Gandhinagar & the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) announced the invention of a new anode material that enables lithium batteries to be recharged within minutes. A new two-dimensional (2D) anode material was jointly developed that not only enables fast charging but also facilitates a battery’s long life. This transformational innovation has a rich potential for translation from the laboratory to real-life application The researchers involved believe that this promising technology can have commercial applications where high energy density, high power, a long life and ultra-fast charging are desired.
3. Sona Comstar to invest Rs.1000 crore for more opportunities in the EV ecosystem.
Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar) will invest Rs.1000 crore for setting up new production facilities that will make components for the electric vehicle industry. A major portion of the company’s new investment will be for differential assembly, final gear and other EV transmission parts.
Supplies to the EV segment, consisting of electric cars, two-wheelers & three-wheelers, make up 68% or Rs.14,000 crore of the company’s net order book. From constituting around 27% of its revenues in 2020, the share of internal combustion engine business for Sona Comstar dropped to 17% in 2022. The share of EV business during the same period has grown from 2% to 25%.
4. Kerala’s Wayanad to get 27 EV charging stations.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) commissioned 27 EV charging stations (including 2 fast-charging stations) at Wayanad (Kerala). Just last month, KSEB inaugurated 145 new charging stations in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram. Out of the 145, 4 were fast-charging stations and 141 were pole-mounted EV chargers. Across the state, KSEB is setting up a network of 56 fast-charging stations and 1165 pole-mounted chargers.
5. Tata Power sets up EV charging stations at Delhi Cantonment area.
The Indian Army, under its ‘Go-Green Initiative’, has collaborated with Tata Power to set up 16 EV charging stations at various locations in Delhi Cantt. Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development, Tata Power, said, “It is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between two of India's legacy organizations.”
Users will be able to access the charging stations through the Tata Power EZ charge app. All the chargers installed are operational now and will be used for charging personal and official EVs of the Indian Army and the employees working in the Delhi Cantt area.
